View Full Version : Who's viewing a thread

I used to be able to see who was viewing a particular thread.
I used to find it handy to decide whether I would fire off a quick response to someone because they were still looking at the tread or to take my time or even do it later.
Is that one of the features that has been turned off temporarily or permanently in the never ending search for better performance from the site?

See! people are stalking me.:p
Maybe it's one of those things not available to people like me who have not yet made the effort to subscribe.

You're right, but given the amount of time I seem to have spent defending my proposal, it could have just been a guess on your part with a pretty good chance of being right.:p
I assume that the fact that I can see your signature means that you have done the right thing and subscribed.
My conscience is beginning to trouble me.
I had better do something about that.

OK stevo68, I've done the right thing and subscribed and have got my signature back, as well as having that warm inner glow that comes from knowing you have done the right thing.:p
However, like NM, I can't see who is viewing a thread that I am looking at.
What's the secret?
(Just in case Ron is looking at this thread; yes, I do know that I have ended the penultimate sentence with a preposition.:p:p)

Yeah, I know about that one, but I used to be able to see not just who was online, but also whether they were looking at a particular thread.
Edit: Scratch half of that. It is different from the way it used to be, but I see what you mean now.

You have no idea how close I came to sending yet another response that would have confused you even further.:p
Luckily even though the edit wasn't there when I read your post, it showed up when I quoted your message as part of my reply.:D
It all makes sense now.

As someone who had to rely on someone else to explain it to me, the situation as I see it is as follows:
The previous way of checking at the bottom of each thread does not appear to be there now.
However if you enter the site via www.aulro.com (http://www.aulro.com) then click in the heading that says "Online users" and a number it opens a list of online members and guests and what they are doing.
Australian Land Rover Owners - Who's Online (http://www.aulro.com/afvb/online.php)
I don't find it as convenient as the previous system, but it's some help.
Edit: Or do what sleepy and stevo68 said.
Gee you have to be quick these days.

thanks for that.......BUT the point i was trying to make is i never had to do that before as i used to scroll to bottom of the page in each thread and it would tell me there who was actually in that thread with you at the time.
none of this go to quick links, click on this business
cant get much quicker than just reading the last post on that page and seeing who was in there with you;)

Mmmm, Until I read this thread , front page is the only place I thought you could see who's online. Didn't realise it was in the "quicklinks" menu or anywhere else - :whistling:

I'm glad someone else remembers that way of checking who else was on a thread.
As no-one else had mentioned it, I was beginning to worry.:p

It was much more fun when it was at the bottom of the thread in particular...quick links you have to open a whole new page :D
And what's even worse, you have to go through a few pages to see if anyone is on a particular thread.
It is the opposite of what I want.
I don't want to see which thread a particular member has open.
I want to know who else is interested in the thread I have open.
