Isuzu 110 front springs

What front springs do you have in your Isuzu 110 ??

Since replacing the V8 with an Isuzu in my 110 County, I haven't yet replaced the front springs to compensate for the significant weight difference between the engines.

With the V8, the 110 sat nice and level with King Springs(KLRR-05HD) in the rear and the front springs were black with a purple stripe (I bought them second hand and was told they are Rangie springs of some type)

At the moment I have Kings front and rear. KLRR-05HD rear and KRFR-03HD front. This combination is listed as HD for a Td5 Defender, but I find with the Isuzu that the front bottoms out to the bump stops fairly easily on moderate dips while off roading, and the front sits between 30 and 50mm lower than the rear.
Talking to a tech guy at Kings, he suggests fitting KRFR-01SP4 fronts because they sit 45mm higher than the KRFR-03HD.
The KRFR-01SP4 is listed as a 4 inch lift on a Rangie, but I guess with the weight of the Isuzu, the 45mm difference in height will level out the 110 again.
I don't have a free length of the KRFR-01SP4, but I will also need to check the length of my shocks ( Koni 84/1186 4700 )

I looked into springs about 12 mths ago. I looked at buying TD5 springs second hand. However, the King Spring on line catalogue indicated the TD5 rear spring is a lot stiffer (21mm wire) than the county type (19mm) for some reason. Maybe it is because of the self leveler at the back.

I ended up just buying a complete set from Donaldsons (Rockhampton). They will deal direct with the public (no cheaper). It was about $400 for a complete set (front & rear). My 110 sits level.

Both King and Donaldson make a set for the Isuzu 110.

I forgot to mention that I also have a steel bullbar and winch on the front which also makes a difference when choosing springs.

I've got Lovells front and rear, I wanted max articulation offroad, but reduced the body-roll on the road, by fitting Polyairs to the rear!.

I tend to do more touring type trips now, so I'm happy with a bit stiffer spring. Any lack of wheel travel on more challenging tracks is made up for by front and rear Maxidrives. But even with the stiffer springs, wheel travel on a 110 is still pretty good anyway.
The main thing I'm concerned about at the moment is the bottoming out of the front end.
I will probably stick with Kings for now as I only need fronts, but I'm certainly interested to hear what anyone else is using to carry that big lump of iron in the front of their Isuzu Landy.

Murray, Hello again, I was just reading your post about the springs. Did you get a set to suit? I have a 110 Isuzu county with a bullbar and winch up front and found that the the front springs from an army 6X6 were ideal for this weight. Regards......Brian

we had a 2 inch kit for a 130 , so i threw the back in my perenti and it s bouncing me down the road , but it s stoped it being so wobbly as it has no sway bars, i went to fit the front and they were alote shorter ,so i put the old ones back in the front and am thinking i might have to swap the back out unless some quality shocks will sort the bouncing.it s sitting rudelyy up in the back now and am wondering if this could be exadurating the bumhops.i have a pto and the original steel bar, so im after sm front legs to carry my isuzu beast standing staunch....

Rangie rear springs may be worthwhile considering for some more options to use in the front with an Isuzu.

Fit Donaldson C51-015s approx 35mm lift - the spring rate works very well on my defender. (Isuzu, Bull bar, wich up front). With 35mm spacers under the rear spring platforms the vehicle sits level and rides superbly.

I ended up fitting OME 766's to the front. These were specifically made for the Isuzu Landy.
The bottoming out problem actually turned out to be caused by me mounting the engine a little bit too low. What I thought was the axle hitting the bump stops was actually the Maxi actuator hitting the sump :eek:. I have fixed this with a little adjustment to the engine mounts and everything has been good since.

If it is of any use to you, I am running LRA orange springs in the front of my RRC Isuzu. I have a steel bar no winch and it is about 80mm bumpstop clearance. They are 180 psi but 17.20" free length. NRC9448/9449 130HD are 225psi, 14.8 and 15.3"free lengths
