HI Guys - I have an i-pod cradle and charger that has both radio tuning and lead output to connect through auxiliary lines. Noted my D3 has Aux input, I am just wondering where the jacks or sockets are for that? I am assuming they are behind the dash but wondering how they are accessible.....Anyone been down this path already?

I had an aux lead fitted for my mp3 player when I bought the car. I know it goes behind the radio unit but thats all. If you can't work it out, let me know and I'll trace it out for you.

Thanks! That would be great. Would also be handy to know if the lead plug in is RCA or something else....
If you have any tips on which panels to remove for access, that would also be awesome!

My SE has the upgraded stereo and there is a 3.5mm socket next to the lighter socket at the back of the centre console.

Thanks Tote - Does that mean you have the upgraded stereo with controls on the wheel? I dont have that level of sound system, but my SE is the 08 build - is what your talking about the model or sound upgrade?

Apologies for the quality of the pics!
As an option LR had an after market audio guy fit a 3.5mm socket connected to the aux input. Socket broke 3 or 4 times so I had him run it as a fly lead. Much better idea as there's no socket in the dash for any weight load to work on.

In the plug nearest the camera, top RH corner is the shield (black). Lower LH corner is R & L (red and blue).

I bought this panel (Cig lighter and aux socket) from a LR dealer in the UK, along with the radio buttons for the steering wheel, and he posted them to me here. Was dirt cheap for the whole lot - something like £66 posted. Compare that to just the cost of the radio buttons from your local dealer here!! :o
The aux socket is supposed to be a pain to connect though (Quite a thread over on disco3.co.uk) but there is allegedly an input in one of the kick panels to save pulling the dash apart. I haven't done mine yet, as you've probably guessed!

I did mine (yes it's behind the front passenger side footwell panel), it wasn't that arduous - probably a 1/2 hr job?

I did manually wired an AUX cable into Dad's D3 soon after he got it. I found the instructions on the Disco3.co.uk forum but stuffed if I can find them now. I'm pretty sure I bookmarked it at home.
It involved taking the bonnet release handle of and soldering in 3 wire behind the handle. Pretty easy only took an hour.

Ah, I meant running it back to the aux socket that comes with the ciggy lighter panel for the back of the centre console. Had a quick look when mine arrives, and it seems I have none of the loom there. Not a problem for the 12v, as I wanted to run that from the aux battery, but a bit annoying to have to wire from either the back of the stereo or the kickwell back to the centre console.

The passenger side footwell is the easiest one to get at as you don't have to take the stereo out to do it. Depending on what you want to run you can put an Mp3 player in glove box or an aux in socket wherever you like.

Thanks for all the replies so far....I am back in town next week so I will definitely be having a look and a dig then, finally...
So just to recap, I am looking for the way to connect into the SE stereo and play my Ipod when I select the AUX setting on the stereo itself.
SO it seems there is access [to what?] by removing the kick panel on the passenger side front seat? Do I need to splice into wires? Or is there a 'plug in' type set up that needs to be accessed? OR are there RCA leads into the back of the stereo? OR is there a 5mm 'plug' like a headphone socket somewhere in the back??
AS you can see I am a bit confused, and beacuse I am not in front of my D3 right now, its hard for me to do some exploration....
Anyone can clear it up? Seems a few different methods here!!
Thanks!
Andrew

Have at look at the following site which gives good instructions on which wires to look for and how to connect an IPod

Thank you for the sound advice. I did mine over the weekend and it was the best 30 minutes I've spent tinkering on my car.
