Hi everyone,

Thanks for all the help with the tyres.:)

I'm seeking more advice in the way of new shocks both front and rear for my 2004 Discovery Classic Td5. I was told to go for Bilstein, is that a good choice or is there others that should go on to my shortlist that I need before doing any more research.

Thanks for all your help:)

Bilsteins or Koni and you couldn't go wrong.

My preference is to Bilsteins, only because I've had excellent service in the past and haven't tried Konis.

My last Bilsteins I got in from the states
Bilstein - KYB - Rancho - Monroe - Edelbrock Automotive Truck Shocks and Struts - Shockwarehouse.com (http://www.shockwarehouse.com)

door to door around 9 days (~$550 for 4 shocks and steering damper for a defender)

I would really have liked to support local ~ but where do they get their prices from ??

Tophu,

I have had Koni on for about for years now.

Blew one on a trip about 18 months after purchase and it was replaced no questions asked.

Adjusted the rear koni's last weekend and after inspection they are still fine. Have a few marks from stones thrown up.

I run Koni's on suspension and use Bilstein steering dampener.

The Disco handles fine in all applications including towing 2t boat.

Both brands are highly regarded.

It could be tricky when ordering shocks from overseas and you have a non standard suspension, i.e. 2" suspension lift. Will the supplier know the correct part number to supply a shock that has extended travel?

It's too much of a risk for me, unless the eBay seller can verify that the shock is indeed different to the standard length one. Even then, I've found that the Bilstein shock part number in Australia for a 2" lifted Discovery Series II was not available in the USA.

So caveat emptor!

Just to be different, I used Billies for years great shocks, then tried rancho

9000's hopeless, went back to billies great shocks, then tried Dobsons

they are as good as billies (I think) and cost 1/2 the price, had them on

the rangie now for over 6 months and can't fault them

Second choice for a Disco would be Bilstein.

IMPORTANT POINT RE BILSTEINS
When.... IF they get a bit ordinary...they can be rebuilt for about 50% of the new price.
I have then on my D2 and they are brilliant:D

I agree with Tony. I have had botH koni and billies on other vechiles but the Dobinsons now on my D2 TD5 are just as good and cost $100 each.

I am way out in front.

Procomps are good and cheap, i actualy got a set of 4 for 400 from suspension stuff, they do the job and are way cheaper then the bilsteins...

but on the other hand i had bilsteins on my D2,, 50mm longer then stock, gave excellent wheel travel and rode extremely well, especially in the rough stuff. If you can splash out the extra go the billies, mine cost me 960 for the set of 4, and valved to suit my SLS rear.
