Headlight bulb replacement

What is everyone using as their high and low beam headlights? I know its been asked a while ago but I cant find the old thread.

I have a 2003 disco and I have to use h7 bulbs. Is anyone using 100w h7 bulbs for high beam or the standard 55w will do?

Brand and wattage?

I've got H4s in my 2a, using 100/55W bulbs. I can't outdrive them.

The downside was the heat destroyed bulbs every 3 months or so, until I cut cooling vents in the back of the bowls.

I believe there's no relays in the headlight circuits on your Disco so make sure you add some (and up the wiring spec) before upping the globe wattage.

DON'T DO IT.

The 2003 has poly carbonate protective fronts on the plastic FF reflectors. Using higher wattage bulbs will most likely discolour the reflectors and front covers and at worst start to melt them.

There is no ventilation in the sealed headlight units either so they have been built to take what they come with.

As for the a wiring there is no relayed system (as already mentioned) but unlike earlier models these units are a little trickier to do as the wiring plugs in via a single multi-pin connector to the headlight pod. This is another reason not to upgrade to higher wattage bulbs as you risk damaging the pod and also your headlight switch.

H4 100/90's in my County with a separate relay for each beam each side and the wiring from relay to lights was replaced with heavy gauge. H3 150 watts in my Hella 1507 searchlight mounted as a long range driving light, and 100 watt sealed beams in my Perlux 200T foglights.
