Ok, i've been using outlook at home for a while now, but to be honest, i'm sick of it and it's crap.

So, is thunderbird ok and worth the effort to switch over to, or should I just relent with outlook and maybe upgrade to 2003 (I have 2000)

What's wrong with Outlook? I've been using it for more than 12 years at home and at work. It syncs with my PDA, too.

I'm not an Outlook fan either. Use it at work because we have to.

I use Eudora which I think is great but although you can still get it they aren't going to upgrade it/work on it anymore.

Was thinking about going to Thunderbird as I like Firefox but have never looked into it.

If you hate freedom then go for Outlook.

Thunderbird uses a better system called Mbox to store emails, basically means that all you need to do is zip up the folder and you have a backup of your emails that you can take to any other email client.

I did a quick Google and found BirdieSync will sync the PDA to Thunderbird. See How to sync your Pocket PC with Thunderbird - Mobile Minute - Download Squad (http://www.downloadsquad.com/2007/02/26/how-to-sync-your-pocket-pc-with-thunderbird-mobile-minute/)

I use thunderbird and love it. But then again I mostly use gmail and gmail calendar. With gmail you can IMAP (http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en_GB&ctx=mail&answer=75725) it to thunderbird.

:p

It was more a contemplative question than anything after reading a couple of things about thunderbird 3 which is due soon.

I'm using thunderbid for years and no problems at all. I have heaps of email accounts some imap some pop and tenthousands of emails in it. It is also very easy if you move it to a new computer.Copy your store dir and off you go. It runs on all my 7 computers :D

mbox is fine till it corrupts, then you get to play with a 7bit ascii text file with a multitude of encoded attachments...

i have a macro for ultraedit to rebuild them as some of the more popular anti virus products have a ball corrupting or deleting them and we get people in wanting us to help them recover some long lost super important email. i just love the backup lecture... some learn, some dont :p

best thing about thunderbird is it copes well with opening outlook express data that neither of the outlook programs will cope with at times....

unless you need to calendar, notes, tasks etc in outlook, go for outlook express, it's free and has a smaller footprint.

As far as either outlook or thunderbird crashing and burning well if you don't have a back up, more fool you. ;)
