A MAN in his 40s was killed when a 4WD lost control and hit a tree 2km south of Serpentine on South Western Hwy at about 11.30pm last night.
Three others in the 4WD were also injured.

A 26-year-old woman was flown by helicopter to RPH in a critical condition with head injuries.

A 17-year-old boy with serious injuries, including fractured legs, and a 17-year-old girl with minor injuries, were taken to Armadale Hospital by ambulance.

Police would not say if the victims from the southern suburbs were related.

It was not known who was driving the Land Rover Defender on the 110km/h highway.

It appeared the 4WD hit the highway's left shoulder, its path was over corrected and it went to the other side of the road and hit the tree, Snr Const David Magorian said.

The impact tore off the 4WD's roof.

The woman was in still in a critical condition at RPH early yesterday.

Very distressing indeed, and I hope it was not someone from here, although being a bit objective, it is just as bad if it isn't.

Of course if anyone from WA who gets any more information, it is of interest to everyone here to know just what happened and how it could have been avoided.

Yes, that is distressing. Personally, every time I'm down there I'm terrified by those 110kmh roads with trees everywhere - it wouldn't take much going wrong to leave the road and hit a tree.

My sympathies to everyone involved.

It is a family tragedy.
Nigel was just pointing out it isnt his family that was involved,he does drive a Defender and Serpentine isnt that far from where he lives.
Best wishes to the relatives of those involved.
They have mentioned the deceaseds name on the news,he was from Serpentine.
The Defender was a white Extreme.

Really sad, saw it on the news. 17yo girl driving believed to be the daughter of the 40yo man killed. Certainly hope it was no one from here and if it was condolences go out.
Looked the Defender survived the roll and impact ok, but FESA had cut the roof off by the look of the pics.
