Hi People.
Good news for you TD5 owners.Ive just trialed a new sensor from Engine Saver specifically for the TD5,no hose cutting required. Now available from Engine Savers Website Low Water Alarm Sensor (http://www.aulro.com/adsrv/www/delivery/ck.php?oaparams=2__bannerid=18__zoneid=1__cb=e1ef7 a96c5__maxdest=http://www.enginesaver.com.au/)

Yup, I have one of those too.
I was keen for a low water alarm but reluctant to cause possible weak spots by cutting the hoses.

Actually (having had a look at the site) the fitting looks a bit different so probably another brand. It was actually fitted accidentally (see PM).

Hi Nobby - I don't think the plastic plug (bleeder screw) is a weak point, but I understand that the fitment of the sensor there is to not create new weak points by cutting hoses etc. Check the link for the fitting instructions to see if you're up to the task of a DIY.

Andy im assuming from the dirty engine bay the pics are yours? :p oh and the beer tops nearby
so.. is it a temp sensor or a water detector? a temp sensor will still detect steam wont it? if its a water sensor then i guess it makes more sense like a float switch.
love to know a bit more...
Thanks

Wash your mouth out Steve,I de-greased it before doing the fit up,its the cleanest its been for a long time!!!! Yes they are my pics, not my stubbie lid,it was left behind by a coopers pale ale drinking workmate.
It isnt a temp sender, needs coolant to keep it quiet.I drained some to check and it screamed, when its quiet therefore detecting coolant and you disconect the terminal it screams.
Nobby/Ricey yes that bleed screw is regarded as a weak point. Its easily damaged and if you want a replacement its the whole top hose assembly, over $100 from a specilist, cant imagine genuine price!!!
The brass sender is an exact replica, perfect in every way,it blew me away!!!!

Thanks Andy
my guess is that the switch senses an increase in electical resistance once water drains .. simple but works ...any other thoughts , agreed heat would be usless
thanks Andy re weak spot
will check it out .. and perhaps fit one
cheers

Land Rover changed the bleed screw design on the later design top radiator hose. My original top hose would have been fine with this device, but my new top hose has the bleed screw moved to the plastic T piece, and it is different in size.

Andrew - I don't suppose this can be combined with the previous in hose kit? I haven't fitted the one I ordered as I don't have 8 cm of straight hose to fit the insert. I didn't want to add a potential failure point to the cooling system.

Graz, i also have one of the previous ones (that needs a hose cut), but asked my LR service guy to install as i couldn't find long enough piece of hose to cut. He installs them all in the coolant reservoir, and they work! Wish i knew then about this new "screw replacement" one, seems much easier

yeh, is it retrofittable to the old joiner system, buy a new hose and just purchase the new bleed screw??

It will definately upgrade.
My kit I had was the inline.
The inline section isnt required, you only need the 1 wire that connects the unit to the sensor, the earth wire on the ealier units like mine is not needed.
Sounds like somebody has alreasy contacted David for a sensor only upgrade $30 delivered.

On advice from David Jones ... to get the $30 upgrade deal you need to mention your association with AULRO

I'm assuming the in-line sensor for a TD5 is installed on Top hose part of the Cooling system ?
if so the In-line sensors are ok , no issues with mine, if installed correctly there should be no weak points;)

There is no issue with ANY of the Engine Savers.
This is just a new way of inserting the probe into the TD5 and from the website, the D2 V8 without having to cut hoses.
The TD5 bleed screw is plastic and can be easily damaged. You cant buy a replacement, you have to get the complete hose @ $100+ plus GST A brass replacement with coolant loss warning is a bonus!!!!!

Im going to throw a spanner here.....
The way the pic of the setup diagram looks on the webpage the sensor runs through the coolant and earths out of the block or where ever the hell else it wants...
your using an organic ACID coolant (or you should be)
was any research done into the effect of electroplating the sensor or vice versa stripping the sensor?
ID just hate to see the sensor getting stripped down and then having a little part of it get itself sucked into something like say the oil cooler and damaging that...
I suspect that Its probabley still the way Im going to go....

I dont know where he got them, but my mechanic Glen from Roverland, replaced mine with a brass unit that looks a lot like the enginesaver unit.
