View Full Version : Who is able to mix their 2 favorite hobbies

Just wondering how many of us are able to mix their two favourite hobbies and what are they.

Mine are, as obvious as it may seem, rail and 4x4ing and go to gether well.

I bought my first 4x4, a D1 so I could better pursue my love of all things rail only to quickly find I enjoyed the LR as much as I enjoyed the rail.

This is my RR under the the Puffing Billy, in the Dandenongs.

Well, the 4WDing and fixing up the High Country Huts, that a lot of us in Vic have got into, go very well together.
I guess you could call that a hobby - we certainly don't get paid for it.

4wding and Photography here too.... 4wd just gets me to places to take photos !

We have two big road trips planned.. Darwin->Melb Oct/Nov 2008 and Melb->England (through Siberia) 2010 - and photography is going to be a huge part of those.

The schedule of the Darwin->Melbourne trip takes into account getting to /leaving places during sunrise/sunset for the best light.

It's easy enough when two of your hobbies are building wooden sea kayaks and paddling sea kayaks.:D

With so many photographers, which was the reason I needed a 4x4, so I could get to those out-of-the-way places, how about posting some pics of your related hobbies.

This is Monto Rail Yard, central Qld.

Its just a 250mm apperture f4 Dob, but its a pain to move in a sedan, its almost as tall as me and weighs the best part of 25kgs. I will be going along to the Qld Astrofest in July/August with it. Or as my wife calls it space camp :p:p
Heres a photo of a slightly larger one at our last gathering

"Driving one of those is like climbing into the upstairs bedroom of your house, and then driving it down the street"

I've driven these.. Larger though! Amazing how 'small' they feel after a while

I love anything outdoorsy.
I work on a Piintball field and get to shoot, a. The Boss and b. Customers.
I also work as a 4WD tour guide as a fill in job, this weekend I have a trip with a destination to be confirmed.
2 things I love AND I get paid for them!!!

Mountain Biking and 4wding with my 2 boys (3 and 5). Living in Alice Springs we will often be driving home from school or day care when from the back seat comes the call - DAD can we go 4wding? The response to this is usually a swift turn left or right straight off the road and away we go - I love living in the bush! Living in Mountain Bike heaven isn't to shabby either. Some rain would be nice though.

MTBing and 4WD Touring.

Live next to a NP which is great for MTBing 2-3 times a week but not enough time off to go 4WDing.

I cant really say what mine are, cause this is a family show....;)

But 1 involves using the Disco to get to places less travelled, and rarely visited by others....

The other, well it has to do with leaving the MOTH & rug-rats at home, and spending quality time with my best friend - ME:p

Evidently, it's a sanity break - for those that get to stay at home...

Seems they all feel better when I go away - should I be worried?
