Hi all, has any one got a free lander V6.
I'm looking at on to purchase.
Has the 2.5 lt motor got any over heating problems like the 1.8 lt K series?
Found a nice gem, low klms, clean and a school taxi. All serviced regually at a landy car dealership.

Unfortunately, the V6 is also a K series engine & suffers the same liner issues as the 4cyl engine.
It also has the automatic transmission which can be problematic.
I would have to advise you to stay away from the petrol Freelanders. The diesels are a much better proposition.

Bugger, Just can't find a nice diesel in Perth.
So you would say, find a diesel fitted to a manual box.
Cheers

The early Freelanders with the L series engine had the manual gearbox. The engine is very good & there's been very few problems with them.
Same goes for the BMW Td4 engine. That was only sold here with the auto though.
Even though it's basically the same auto as the V6, it doesn't have anywhere near as many problems. The auto does work hard behind the V6 though as it kicks down at the drop of the hat & the engine revs it's head off.

I've not heard of problems with the Auto box and TBH the best combination for the Freelander is the TD4 Auto.

The v6 is by far the fastest, but for reliability get a diesel. Either. the order of reliability seems to be somehting like:
BEST -> worst
L-series
TD4
...
...
V6
...
...
...
K4
Sadly i have a K4, however with a knowledgeable mechanic, engine specific costs may be kept pretty low. It drives nice, but lacks boogie under 4K rpm.
cheers!
PS. I think this Q was asked in the Freelander section of the forum, there is more detail there.

My wife had an 02 V6 Auto Flandie, never gave us much of a drama, we had the lgnition barrel lock up which was replaced under warranty, then the accelerator got jammed open on the spit brigde in peak hour traffic, took it to Alto who coul'nt find any fault and it never happed again, the weird thing we did have was it always ran very hot, literally within 5-10 mins of start up the fan was on and hardly ever went off and the car had that 'overheating' smell, it never used water and ran fine otherwise, again, Alto's found no problems, found it to be very reliable in the end , but was a big drinker...
cheers,
Ray
