View Full Version : Part numbers... anyone?

I think that we can all agree that most of the dealers are pretty useless and the spare parts departments are equally clueless, So I thought that we could get a list of genuine part numbers for some of the little extras that we manage to hunt down. At the very least if anyone is looking for a part then they could post here and hopefully one of the members could help us out.
I’ll get it started then…. I’m looking for the genuine spotlight switch to fit a 2008 Defender. My dealer told me he would get one in, only to call me a week later say he had the fog lamp switch. He is still looking, or maybe he has given up, I’m not really sure.
Thanks in advance
Craig

Hi Craig, I also asked about this, but was told the switches were tied into the body control module so couldn't be used as a normal switch...... I haven't figured out how to get the center dash facia off to have a look at the switches for myself yet, (read; I'm too chicken to stick a screwdriver behind it and give it a good yank!).
If you do find the part numbers I'll be greatfull! I'd also love to get my hands on a proper parts manual/workshop manual for the new defender if anyone can help.
Cheers,
Tim

Dammit!!!
Is this because they are not available to the public, or because LR themselfs don't have them??:wasntme:

LR technical information is available online at www.landrovertechinfo.com (http://www.landrovertechinfo.com)
but before you get too excited you have $ub$cribe.
AULRO should get a subscription(s) and in turn sell shares to interested members.

I have a fog light switch rewired to come on with the high beam for my spot lights, so you could always use one of those, the fog light in the dash also comes on.

Check this link www.REEDX.net (http://www.reedx.net/landrover/mods/2002dash/part5/index.htm)
It does not have a spot lamp switch as you require but it does have the part numbers for the FOG lamp switch which should have the same function. The connectors for the loom to the switch can be sourced from the electrical company (Heart Electronics) mentioned on the website. I wanted some connectors for the wash wipe switches that I want to use as interior winch control switches and gave the guy at Heart Electronics a ring. They only sell the connectors in truck loads but he did send me some as a free sample. That's right, from the uk to Australia totally free. Worth a bell.

I know I would be interested in "sharing" a login to the online manual.
with that "redex" stuff, are the switches from the 2002 dash the same size as the 2007 dash.

As far as I can tell these switches are common to the TD5 2002 model on and the new model Defender. They only cost about $20 or so ($10 if you buy them in the UK or have some one who is coming out and can buy them for you) so even if you were to order one and it was wrong you haven't exactly lost much. I'm pretty sure someone on here with the older model would snap it up soon enough if you had to put it up for sale anyway.
They include the lighty up at night stuff built in aswell.

I came across this thread describing the removal of the centre console on the LR4X4site:

ok guys i have taken onboard what you have said....
and in the next couple of days
i'm going to start 2 threads in a sticky section....
one will be like suggested for those hard to find part numbers, BUT at this point in time i'm going to limit it to only the 07 onwards, as according to many on here other part numbers are more easily obtained.
i'm also going to start another thread on serivce bulletens and recalls again for the 07 onwards.
in the hope that it might be a good resource when people hit the search button when looking or thinking about buying a new defender.
the only thing is i'm going to make it so only i can update this thread...as i dont want it to turn into another general chit chat section...so all i'm asking if you come accross any of the above if you would be so kind as to forward it on to me i will post it in either of the 2 threads if it is relevant
sound fair?:)

Good move!:)
I'm preparing a list of known issues for the dealer to check out prior to delivery (and the handing over of the reddies). I will be asking for advice here.

It costs US$14 for 24 hours access to the LR Global Technical Reference (I am a registered user). If someone is interested and has broadband, you can pull an enormous amount of information down in 24 hours. I did that for the P38A.
It's well worthwhile.
Here's some info on Defenders:

I was thinking that the carrot of access to GTR might encourage a few more Gold subscribers...but I bow to the janitocracy.:p;)

It does.
It is the replacement for paper manuals.
Scouse could confirm this.
