View Full Version : Tow hitch options

I have recently bought a 2005 D3 TDV6 HSE and like many am very disappointed with the height of the factory tow hitch arrangement.

After some research there appears to be 3 options.
1.Hayman Reese R2387 complete bar and hitch receiver
2.Mitchell Bros 4x4 hitch receiver that bolts to the factory recovery loop and safety chain eyes.
3.A very robust South African designed hitch

As my vehicle has a 100l aux fuel tank and a Kaymar rear bar and wheel carrier the Hayman Reese option is ruled out as the attachment points clash.

So I’m left with options 2 & 3 above. Do anyone have a Mitchell Bros hitch AND a Kaymar rear bar? I would like to see how they fit together. I am concerned about the hitch receiver clashing with wheel carrier latch handle. Is this a problem?

If anyone has details on other option pleases advise.

Timothy,
Depending on how high u want/need the tow ball to be, there is a simple solution. 2" taller ball available from most towbar outlets. Rated to 3500kg.
Hope this may help..;)

Yeah, I'd try this, in combo with various tongue angles (also readily available) before I went down the more complicated routes.

Cheers,

Depending on how old your Kaymar bar is, I think Kaymar modified heirs to fit the Mitchell bros Hitch. The wheel carrier arms are an issue but Mitchell Bros will cut off the recovery eye for you so the wheel carrier arms clear. The other Haggis on the Disco3.uk forum has a Kaymar bar with two wheel carriers and a Mitchell Bros Hitch, brings it to exactly the right height for an off road trailer.

Thanks CaverD3.
After looking through some of the pics on the UK forum, in particular Haggis photos, I'll order the Mitchell Bros device. Thanks for your help. No doubt I'll have more questions for the forum in coming months.
