Howdy TD5 owners.
I have read a few threads quoting power and torque figures, but I haven't seen any dyno charts. Has anyone done a test to see what you actually get out of the chip?
Or has anyone clocked the difference in 0-100 times?
I know that a standard TD5 auto can get up to 100k in 17 seconds and a V8 auto will do it in 13 seconds. How far does the chip close the gap?

Hi Colin and Welcome to the Forum;
From what I can Understand there are different Chipping Mods for TD5 Ranging from Mild to Wild .. depending on what you're after, to give you an idea I think "George130" is pushing close to 200kw from his 130 defender TD5.
what Model TD5 is yours ? there are 2 x types Flashable and non-flashable.

i havent had my car confirmed as whether its chipped or not, but after being to TRS here in adelaide and driving their chipped demo car and them drive mine, we think mine is chipped. 0-100 (me and a handheld stopwatch) is 14 seconds. td5 disco auto.
as far as dyno, i think it was 84kw at the wheels after and 70ish before.

As said you can get mild to wild chips. My ex boss has a "bruce davis special" and can now smoke 35's on standard diffs;)

I have not had my Disco 2 TD5 on the dyno as they do not have one in Karratha. Have not clocked it 0-100 as I do not have the time or inclination.
TRT ECU Remap(middle of the range), EGR removed, Vortex muffler, plus tweaked up turbo boost. About 30-40% increase over stock.
I did however have to change both engine mounts at 85,000 klms as they had collapsed.
I tow 2,500kg when I hook up the van with the 2.5 litre at 100klms in 4th gear on the auto. It struggled before the mods were done especially in a headwind.
My advice, don't go too wild on the ECU remap.

Thanks for the replies.
Brad, how is the chipped motor towing 2500kg now?
Do you know what your consumption is when towing that big weight at 100k?

Tows great now. Average some where around 15-18 litres 100klms towing. Depends on terrain and head winds.
We had a horrendous head wind (40 knot)coming back from shark bay about 1 month ago when we swung around north after Mybilly road house. Chewed up 25 litres 100klms in that wind as it did not let up all the way back to Karratha.
The van is up on 3 tonne simplicity suspension so it sits up high. It's like dragging a brick in a bad head wind.
Tailwind is a different story though as it gets pushed along.:)

Thanks again Brad for a very detailed description. That is a lot of litres!!!
And it is a lot of weight as well. How far was the trip into the headwind?

My TD5 prior to remap used ~9.5/100 (highway) but would easily jump into the 20s with 3t on the towbar (pushed hard).
After remap - pretty much the same, just pulls heaps better.
Come to think of it - I remember recording 22L/100 in the late 90s in our 300td1 D1 while towing 2.7t with no wind at night.... That poor engine:D

What size vortex muffler do you have fitted, do you have the stainless steel or mild steel one, I am thinking of fitting one...

He went 2.5"
Keep the factory pipework, just remove the centre section and get it fitted properly...
Both SS and Mild work the same, how long you keeping the car? And the SS sounds slightly better :D
