I have used the Eastlink road for two days now. Most days I travel to the city for work so go from Bayswater (Boronia rd) to the city. I know it is school holidays at present but so far I seem to be saving at least 20 minutes each way.
I expect the polls to cost around $5.00 per day when the charges start and with the less stop starting hopefully will save more than the $5.00 a day in tolls with less fuel being used.
Interestingly each day so far there have been crashes both ways and a B double that was stopped just before the tunnel heading to the city which clearly was way too high to fit and was facing a long reverse to get back to an exit ramp.
I hate having to pay for the road but it may be cheaper and alot quicker to just use it.

And with fuel at current prices the $5 is probably only costing you about $3 or less.

Ive used it the last three day as well going from Bayswater to Port Melb. I leave at 6am from home and leave work at 3.30pm to come home Whilst Monday and Tuesday were ok I think I saved around 10 mins going to work going home definitely got me home 20mins earlier.

However today going in, the out bound tunnel had its boom gate down due to a height sensor being triggered I believe and when I got to Hoddle street it was fairly heavy going. I reckon It would of been quicker using my old route.

The left lane of the outbound tunnel is always banked back and crawling I suppose so people can use the Ringwood bypass. Will be interesting to see how it all goes once people start paying tolls.

Will be interesting to see how the city end of it ends up getting hit however.

Hoddle St/Alexandra Pde were bad enough before it opened so it'll be interesting to see if any time savings out on the freeway part of the road get wiped out by things turning into a carpark when the increased traffic reaches the city.

G/F travels outbound from Northcote to Kilsyth each morning (and usually returns home!). Old travel time Northcote->Kilsyth morning or Kilsyth->Northcote evening was about a hour. Now it's 20 minutes less each way - she's pretty happy. :D

And as it happens - tolls are part of company car package - so no extra $$$.

Stoopid Melbourne roads:p

At least in Melbourne they made tunnels! The Gippsland method is to simply tarmac straight over mountains regardless of the gradient, not Tdi friendly:D. And overuse of the concept "double white lines".

Mmmmm, true:(

But it takes me 7 mins to get to work, you?:p

By the way, I've been stuck in those stupid tunnels, more times than I care to remember, luckily I stopped at the bottle o each time on the way home from work to my mates where I was staying:D, "this is the stupid tunnel control roo..........." over and over and over:mad::mad::mad:

Out of town at the mo and I will not get to try it out before Oct 09. Interested to hear opinions as to whether there has been/will be any change to traffic congestion on Springvale Rd and Stud Rd?

I suppose at least the boom gates stopped thosee trucks. I wonder what the result would have been had they not..........:o

Personally I oppose having to pay for the roads we should have, and indeed are already paying for with fuel taxes. But then I don't have to worry much about it, coz I live far enough away from them.

The last time I went to work it was a 4 hour drive, followed by a two hour flight, then a two hour drive...

Good thing I only do it once a month :p

I left Heidelberg this evening at 8:50pm. Travelled down Bell st to Bulleen Rd then onto the freeway (Eastlink) and got off at Boronia Rd, stopped at Coles in Boronia at 9:25pm. That trip would have taken me at least 50mins at the same time of night before Eastlink opened.

I'll pay the toll no problem! It's less stress for me and the car.:)

I might have to give it a run this weekend and see what the fuss is about, we go to Phillip Island every couple of weeks so will be handy then.
