Just bought a set of A pillar tweeters from a wrecked D2 at AMV, as I wanted to upgrade the stereo & I miss the tweeters from my D1. (Wanting to keep it original looking, thinking I will get the stereo installers to use these). So I get home & I thought I will take the trim off to see what they look like on & hey presto, the wires are already there!!!!! :clap2:Just needed to plug them in. Even with the crap stereo, sounds 100% better. So if anyone has a D2 & only has 4 door speakers, this is a very cheap way to improve the sound.

I thought all D2's had the A pillar tweeters??? ...now my D1...THAT was a crap sound...even with a good head unit! Lol!
I replaced my factory D2 ones with Alpine splits plus the rear doors - all tucked away and looks factory...much better, even before the new head unit, amp and sub.

DI5CO - thanks for that info, I was planning to do exactly the same thing and wondered if the wiring would be set up. My 7-seat 1999 D2 V8 man has only four door speakers, while my previous D2, a 1999 5-seat V8 auto had five.... four on the doors and one A-pillar tweeter on the pass side...
I have also bought an ES leather steering wheel with audio controls for stereo, which my previous wheel did not have. I hoped that maybe it was all wired up to go, but it isn't. I know I've seen a thread about this somewhere, now just have to find it...

This was (& still is) in the D1 I just sold. Head unit with ipod adapt. & Alpine speakers in the doors all kept with original grills. The rears were slightly bigger. Sub can come out easily. want to have the same sort of setup in the D2 or maybe a fold out screen with TV etc. still deciding on what I want to spend.(or allowed to spend:censored:)
Price from AMV was 22 each. A place in adelaide quoted 35 each+25 postage but I don't know if they were new or 2nd hand. the ones from AMV cleaned up spotless.

Abt $180 landed from the US.
Don't search eBay Aus but do a search for land rover steering wheel on eBay US site. Most will ship international anyway, but for some reason I only struck gold with a search on the US site. There are heaps of them from $20US for a basic leather wheel (no horn buttons, cruise, audi etc) to $500US for brand-new later wheels in black or grey leather, lightstone, what ever you want, it seems.
Ebay US is a terrible place cos you could waste so much money on Disco gear...

The problem with A pillar speakers is I have to pause the CD to ensure all those hi-pitch notes are from the cd!!:o:o
The normal D2 sound config is lousy with the rears in the bottom of the rear doors,, when I took the 3rd row seats out I replaced the D Pillar seatbelt rollers with 6 inch alpines,,
Mucho Bettero.
(If your D1 had bad sound,, it had a bad system,,,:p)

Hey guys this seems like the place to ask the following.
i have a 98 D1 with the standard speaker set up one in each front door and one in each rear piller. I'm not to happy with the performance of the sound so i was thinking of upgrading it :)
My thoughts were some higher quality 4" speakers for the doors and making the rear pillers to fit 6/9" splits and iv seen some people running around with a 10" or 12" sub mounted in the boot door so it doesn't take up any boot space and the seats can still be used :) i am really keen on this set up. I was thinking of keeping the head unit standard to save money as i use a tape connected to i-pod to play my music :D
Also I'm not even sure if my tweeters work i cant notice them at all  so how much do you think ill be set back im not looking for top of the range.
Cheers!

I grabbed 2 sets of VDO Dayton 6" split components from JB the other day for the princely sum of $48 each.
Set in the front are fitted with the tweeters slapped on the outside of the door trim near the handle, same in the rear with the tweeters up near the window switches and job's a good'un. Definetly doesn't look stock but the tweeters don't get in the way and don't look too bad so all i was really looking for.
Not exactly audiophile quality but leaps and bounds better than stock and for $96 to do all round they work for me. Just lacking a bit in the midrange would be my only criticism.
