Can those of you running gas on a modern petrol engine give me an indication on what differences you see power and economy wise vs petrol please? Is it still around the 5-10% loss that always used to get quoted, or is it less with more modern systems?

Thanks

I have LPG on my 1989 patrol (carbie). The patrol has the head shaved & done up, "crow" gas cam plus electronic ignition and exhaust extractors. With the extra bit of compression it stills runs ok on unleaded.

Running on LPG I seem to use pretty close to the same amount of gas as when running on petrol. Power is pretty close to the same but slightly better on petrol as to be expected.

It is now also cheaper to run the patrol on LPG than the Disco 2 TD5, so we use it as the shopping Trolley. Not as much fun as the Landy though.

If you're contemplating a conversion on the D3 then you'd be getting a gas injection conversion. These offer virtually identical performance to petrol and use marginally more fuel.

I have a venturi system fitted to my disco and it works well, performance is down when compared to petrol and uses a liitle more l/100km.

How modern are you talking?

I have LPG on my 1997 V8 Disco and can't say that I have noticed any significant difference in power between using petrol or LPG but the fuel consumption on LPG is slightly higher.

I am about to have LPG Injection System fitted to my 93 Disco, it has a 4L cross bolt block and heads from a 2003 MY, it has the 3.5 EFI system, with 3.5 dissy and timing cover and 3.5 computer.
I have spoken to some customers (1 Toyota, 2 Discos) of the LPG fitter I am going to use. They have all agreed that with the Gas Injection system, which also incliudes a computer to control spark (ignition timing) for both fuels, that they have experienced no loss of Fuel economy for normal driving, improved fuel economy when towing and a marked increase in Power on LPG over Petrol, they are more than happy with the result. This system can be tuned via a laptop computer and costs $4250 fitted, Regards Frank.
