I keep on meeting nice people who drive Land Rovers.

I was very stuck on Saturday on the Hume Highway, after buying an old Mercedes Coupe in Sydney and attempting to drive it back to Adelaide. Started overheating less than 100Kms out of Sydney. Spent 6 hours on the side of the road trying to get things sorted out. The NRMA couldn't do anything so it is being flat-bedded back to Adelaide this week sometime.

I left the car on the side of the road and walked to the nearest service station, where I luckily met a couple driving their Land Rover back to Sydney from their farm.

They gave me a lift and actually dropped me back at Sydney Airport even though I offered to catch a cab as it was out of their way. Had a good chat about 300Tdi's and his Series 2A on the way back.

He said he was a member of a few forums, so if you are John with a 2 door 1983 300Tdi Disco - a million thanks - that saved my day from being utterly and completely depressing.

That was very nice of them to do that, also there must be 10 or more members within 10mins to an hour from where you broke down, shame you couldn't get on the net and ask for help.

Glad it all turned out well for you.

Baz.

Not sure I'd say that the weekend all turned out well!! But yes, getting help from strangers is reassuring in a world where mostly everyone only seems interested in looking after themselves.

It is such a bad feeling to be stuck and not know how you are going to resolve it.

The NRMA wanted me to be towed to Mittagong and have it sorted out on Monday :(, then drive back (possibly) on Tuesday. I needed to be back in Adelaide for work/Kids/ etc, so it seemed the best option to truck it and just fly back.

My "bargain" is looking much less like a bargain now, as the missus has pointed out numerous times........ although she also thinks it is quite funny in a sympathetic way.

Well, look at it this way, your home and still not stuck on the highway near Sydney;)

As for the car, not all bargins turn out the way you want.
