a 1986 County behind an Isuzu 3.9 diesel?

Talking about 5 speed gearboxes.

How strong are they?

What are the ratios like? I will be running 4.11 gears and 35s.

How hard/expensive are they to rebuild?

I think they are the lt85 gearbox but could be wrong;)

the 5 speed is an lt85 pushing a lt230 type transfer case with 3.54:1 diffs between the axles.

Its a good box but not as tough as the combined box and tcase setup of the lt95 tho for most people its more than good enough.

Dont let it idle for prolonged periods nor work it hard at idle as that will quickly kill the main support bearings.

An lt85 takes about a day to rebuild and another day for the whole in out process.

the 4.11 combo setup will work nicely with 33's with either of the 2 boxes but watch overdrive if your working sersiously wide tyres its the skinnyest gear in the box, The diff ratio change will go a ways to compensate for the tyres but with the extra resistance it may not be enough if you go heavy hauling for your normal cruising and cross country setup you'll be apples. if you stay out of 5th and dont abuse the thing theres no reason why an lt85 shouldnt last as long as the tcase and with exceptional care the engine.
