I am doing a 'want' list for a new defender 130 I propose to lease next March so I rang offroad equipment in Perth regarding a snorkel and the response was that Safari had not developed one for the new defender. So have all you new defender owners had the factory snorkel fitted? What aftermarket snorkels (if any) are available.
Thanks

Until Safari develop a new model a Safari snorkel can be made to fit (the 300Tdi version I think).
Opposite Lock in Rockdale Sydney have done a few including Xavie's former Fender (now Tolinja's).
Regardless of make the big issue seems to be making sure that the entire assembly is sealed to prevent water ingress.

I contacted Rovacraft and they can supply a Mantec snorkel for the new fender, cost is $700.00 incl. GST.

It's probably worth ordering one directly from the UK. Best price I could work out was closer to $500 including delivery. This is for the "new plastic jobby" which I quite like the look of - but I second the need to properly seal it when you install it.

I bought a Mantac "New Plastic Jobbie" from a company in Perth, and it was around $550 delivered to Adelaide. If you can't find a suppler let me know and I'll go looking for the invoice to help you out.

Thanks,
the supplier's name would be appreciated, apparently the factory fitted snorkel is $1140.00 which I consider is highway robbery. I am expecting the lease quote on Monday, I have requested the 134L fuel tank, winch bar, lightforce 240 blitz spotties and an alloy tray. Other accessories like dual batteries, overhead console, UHF CB radio etc I will purchase and fit myself. Also planning to fit a detroit locker in the rear.

Why are you going to fit a locker when it has TC? take that back it's a 130... my mistake

I can 't find the invoice, but I did find some very high quality stubbie coolers that they sent with the snorkel (included in the price!) with their details.
Try - RovaCraft (08) 9377 0080.
They were excellent. It arrived in about 3 days so I was pretty happy with that.
Cheers

That's interesting as Rovacraft's quote to me was $700.00. When it's time to purchase one I'll use your quote as a lever for a better price.
Thanks

Maggsie - not to sway you one way or the other - Safari have just finished 'guinea pigging' my TD4. It wont be long until the new snorkle is available. As soon as Peter / Dean at Safari let me know I'll post up the availablility. They are in development (rumor only) with a new style also but thats not confirmed.
I only picked up the finished product last week from Boronia and they did a great job.
Come March i would say the new model will be readily available.

If you are buying this car through a salary sacrifice type lease I would recommend having all the accessories bought and fitted to the car prior to delivery. This way you don't get charged the same tax as if you buy them and fit them yourself. If the dealers prices aren't as good as another supplier just point the dealer to the supplier you want and get them to source them that way. It could save you loads of dollars.

Hey guys, when you say the "new plastic jobbie" from mantec, do you mean the one that the intake looks like some angled bit of modern art?

what's wrong with factory snorkel? I thought the Landrover ones were supposed to be good unlike the toyota ones that are really only good for dusty conditions. Definately better to purchase all goodies at the same if you can.

Price confirmed the Landrover factory fitted snorkel is $1140.00. By the time I want my new car, Safari should have snorkels for the new defender on the shelf.

Should add to this post I've just ordered 2 of the new Mantec "plastic jobby" snorkels from the UK for less than the cost of one of these from the Australian importer.
They are both spoken for - my Defender and a mates - but the price difference is ridiculous and yes, that includes the cost of freight.

That'd be right, just as I order the Mantec, still a couple of points, the ARB price for the Td5 Safari Snorkel is $465, still a lot more than I paid for the Mantec and secondly the Safari web site lists the SS580HF as being for the Td4 defender, but in the detail says its for the Td5. At least the pictures correct!

No it isn't.... its a Discovery (from the same page)
For example in order to achieve the optimum air flow within the engine bay area of the Discovery, a special rubber duct was engineered to deliver a huge shot of fresh air directly into the air cleaner assembly.

Do you think they are confused or just use Cut and Paste a lot :lol2:

I would like to see that special rubber duct so colourfully described as delivering a HUGE shot of fresh air...it sounds like something you'd get from K-Tel.

I got a TJM a couple of months ago. Don't have receipts handy but was about $380. Came with good instructions for fitting including waterproofing all seals which the genuine LRA ones that I have seen do not do this.

I paid less than that for the new Mantec:D
