Hey guys, I'm kinda a new Disco owner/driver and would love your technical help...

I own a '93 Disco on gas. I have three 20 litre 'scuba' gas tanks in the boot section (total capacity 60 litres), with the original petrol tank still attached. I currently get about 220-240 kms from gas in the city. I am wanting to convert/tune my Disco to gas only and am needing to know the best way to do this.

I have heard/read that getting it Dyno tuned for gas can increase the efficiency and economy significantly and would love to hear results from anyone who has done this with their Disco?
Also, I visited the Deacon Auto website Deacon (http://www.deaconauto.com.au), who specialise in installing Gas Vapour Injection systems into Land Rovers, and am very interested in hearing back from people who have also done this!!! Is it worth it? Rough costs involved? Which systems are the best, i.e. which systems keep their programming even when battery dies? (somthing i read on another forum).

Finally, I want to tour a bit, so is it worth getting rid of the 'scuba' tanks and getting 1 large gas tank installed?

Anyway, any answers are helpful, as I love my Disco, i just need to make it more efficient! Finally, does anyone know of a trustworthy company who specialise in Gas Vapour Injection in Adelaide?

thanks heaps,

Dart

Pull the engine out and get some machining of the block done and some new pistons to get your compression ratio up to 12:1. After doing this you will not be able to run petrol at all. But it will run quite happily on LPG.

Then get your distributor recurved to suilt your engine in this configuration.

If you currently have the old style mixer ring LPG system. I designed a mixer ring which works quite well. I actually run it on my motor. It is far less restictive than the majority of LPG mixer rings that get fitted onto cars by gas fitters.

This is the dimensions of the ring I designed:

Those items should get your going. If you wanted LPG injection you are looking at around $4500.

I actually run a LPG only car. I have the largest tank you can get (I think) - 200L water capacity and it fits about 170L of LPG into it and in my old configuration (before I started playing around with the mixer ring and timing) I could get 900km out of it. I don't know what my economy is now since I still haven't gotten tired of the increase of power yet... i'm driving hard.

I've done a bit of touring in the car and what I do is that I carry an adaptor hose if I ever do run out of LPG. The hose lets me unhook gas tank in the car and hook the engine up to a standard domestic BBQ bottle which, if you use a 45KG bottle will get you to the nearest station. But i've never really needed it with 900km of range.
