Nice. Great for offroad duties, as you say, because of the solid state internals.

I use my 701 for astronomy - again, out in the field where HD's just hate it at sub-zero temps.

I wish I had the larger screen, but I bought mine when the 4Gb 701 was the latest. It was running Xandros when i bought it, but is now running XP SP3.

These are incredibly versatileunits, and are a hackers dream. I've even seen a few running MacOSX.

LOL! Great stuff.

oddly enough they dont like being used upside down... and prone to overheating it appears.

i have already had a few thru here looking for cooling solutions for them.

i have based my car computer prototype on this cpu and it certainly does a good job.

oh and omaroo, you can get upgraded screens for the 700's i think, they have started to do plug in touch screens for the 900 and 901. i found most of them on ebay just searching for eee pc 901.

i havnt got the natmaps, mine are scanned from original topo maps, found on ebay years ago. i only load the maps i require to my sd card, not the whole lot.
try only loading one map (current position) to eeepc and see if it makes any difference?

im working on having all of my maps on several sd cards so i can swap between one or another if needed.

I dont have the bits to put stuff onto sd cards, so, if I get an eee 901,
can I put maps and stuff onto 2 or 4 gig message sticks and plug them into the usb ?
With the 901, for use at home, can an external hardrive be plugged in for extra storage ?
Can an external cd player be plugged in or would I need to put the cd contents onto a message stick ?
Can a wireless mouse be plugged into the usb when working at home ?

A few questions, I know, sorry. I will probably buy a 901 this coming week.
I also want to use it with the Faultmate MSV 2 diagnostic software,
besides using it for an in car GPS.
Thanks.

PS: They are cute looking little things aren't they.

With the 901, for use at home, can an external hardrive be plugged in for extra storage ? yep, ive got mine plugged into a 500gb external.
Can an external cd player be plugged in or would I need to put the cd contents onto a message stick ?you can buy a usb cd/dvd drive, or you can copy any file to the usb stick or the external drive then copy it to the 901. this is what ive done.
Can a wireless mouse be plugged into the usb when working at home ?
im using my bluetooth mouse thats for my dell, but i spose you could use a usb one, may just need the driver??
