I need to replace the windscreen for rego on my 95 Discovery.
I have been quoted $600 total(~$300 for the windscreen and ~$300 for the rubber/metal surround for the windscreen).
Does anybody know of a cheaper alternative for the surround as apparently he only has access to the genuine part? The bloke tells me that if you don't replace the surround it will not seal properly and will look like crap due to an aluminium edge in the rubber that holds the screen bending when it is removed.
Thanks

$175.00?? Wow, I thought my $195.00 was good. Did not replace the surrounds, and they were not replaced back in 2002 either. Small problem this time is wind noise, louder than before and I haven't found where it is coming from yet.

try putting you hand down in front of the dash that is where it usually comes from... a quick fill of the black goop (can't think of it's name) you buy from hadware is what they use or you could get the guy back out as I did and he fixed it for me

the car mobs dont ever pay much more than 100 - 120 for a screen,
the neighbor two doors up reckoned he'd do it for 90, plus the renouned for needing replacement top strip and he is a well known brand windscreens somebody fitter

OK - I think I will have to get a second and probably third quote.
This bloke was adamant that it was too hard to remove the surround without damaging it so I should probably go to somebody else anyway:eek:
Thanks

Is your car insured? Most comprehensive policies allow for a free screen every year. Mine copped a big rock off a truck in front about a month ago. New screen, rubbers etc all covered.

That guys is dodge and playing you for stupid some guys think just because you drive a Land Rover your cashed up to the kilt. But he might have sussed something wrong with the rubber or the last time he did he stuffed it up on another Land Rover.
