Door hinge bolt/ nut

The #$@% nut fell of the back of the A piller (inside the firewall) while I was adjusting the front doors:mad: Anyone got any tips on how to recover it and to fit it again?

remembering back (which is a bit dim) from when I put mine back together, the nut is square and fits captured in something that clips on like a speedy nut. It actually clips on to the outside of the a-pillar, in a recess. This description will be clearer once you look at it.

The only way I can think to fix the problem is to undo both bolts at the lower hinge at the fire wall with the door closed. Swivel the hinge back and you should be able to look inside and get the nut that will be floating around at the bottom. There should be a plastic insert/plug under the a-pillar that when removed will enable access to the cavity. You could poke around with a magnet. To replace the square nut you will need to unbolt the hinge where it came from and secure the nut inside the speedy nut. It might be a good idea to get a new set from landrover or another landy parts supplier. In all likelihood the existing set up will be badly rusted.

I would try to keep one hinge bolted up so the door doesn't move too much.

its a clip nut, sort of the predecessor to the riv nut or nutsert...

once youve gotten one in expect that when you go to take it out its going to fall inside of whatever youve put it into.

if you want to make something a little better...

put longer screws into the hinges then screw a nut onto them so that they remain centerd and aligned on the hinge. screw on 2 more nuts but not so far that the thread passes all the way through the nut. now with the nuts on the end of both the screws tack weld 2 pices of coat hanger wire onto the back side of each nut so that the wire doesnt protrude past the inside thread or outside edge of the nut and so that the 2 nuts are made into one item.


remove the lot from your hinge and then tetris it into the holes in the bulkhead, screw the screws in, and make sure they line up. Next put a long stud into one of the nuts to hold it in place and slide the hinge over it, install a screw and then remove the stud and install the second screw..

Thanks for the advice lads. I thought had to take off the front guard to get into the firewall. This sounds much easier.
