I have sitting on the floor in my storage a set of brand new Long range fuel Tanks for my D2. Main Tank is 130l, Second wing tank 35l.

I bought them to do the Simmo and a few other trips but am now going to Italy etc.. Guess why. (Wife just cashed in my desert parks pass too)!

I am still planning the trips for Next year so still want the LR tanks installed but the trouble is I have an LPG Manifold tank on the rear floor of my D2 that not only blocks access to the little hatch for the fuel lines but also needs some fidding for the LPG tank fixings that go through the floor.
The problem is that it's a PIA to have the LPG tank and plumbing removed, the tanks installed then the LPG replaced!

I am pretty sure that the Guys that do the LPG will be able to put the LR tanks in, It seems relatively easy.

The LR tanks owe me $1600 even before they are installed.... But I HATE carrying petrol inside the car! AND I HATE roof racks for long journeys especially with Jerry cans on them in an already lifted D2!

Q1 - Has anyone ever removed a D2 fuel tank without access to the little hatch....

Q2 Has anyone installed a long range tank system similar to mine. I have spoken to LPG man, reluctant but willing to have a look. I

Q3 Is there anything I should be telling him to watch out for, i know ARB who usually do the install fill the tanks and test drive pretty extensively, but this guy is just a normal mechanic!

Why not ask a local LR mechanic - or are there none where you are?

Removing and refitting the LPG tank is no big deal - but you need to have the unions checked for leaks afterward. I removed my 90 litre cylindrical tank.

I know it's not a D2 but I removed my petrol tank from the P38A and fitted a long range tank. There are no holes in the floor so one has to drop the tank to access the fuel lines. Access to the filler was obtained after removing the wheel well liner.

What does the workshop manual say?

I can't be very helpful on the information side of things...

But I have a 135l Long Ranger fitted to 2 Rocks, so if pics would be useful (though probably not) I'm more than happy to take some for you.

Cheers

if the d2 is similar to the d1, then you will probably need access to the hatch to remove the fuel pump, so that it will drop down easier.

Thanks for the replies and offers of pics.

I am going to have to organise a meeting with my very unfriendly and un LAND ROVER sympathetic LPG man to see if he's even up to the job.

Sources indicate that on the D2 you need access to the hatch in the rear floor to get at the fuel pump. My RAVE cd isn't working so if you can back this up then that would be much appreciated.

Here's the nuts and bolts though, they had to lower the main tank slightly to access the LPG Fixings. But they now have to remove completely the LPG Tank and lines to install the long range tanks, then work out how to do it all over again to reinstall the LPG!

I don't want to just drop it off, say here ya go fix her up, and get hit with a $2000 installation fee with plenty of strange excuses for profit making....
