It was a while ago I did mine, but I think this is what I did:

Grab a coathanger (metal one) and cut it into a couple of say 20cm lengths of metal.

Bend each piece of metal to make a U shape, and insert each end of the metal into the little rounds holes at the sides of the Land Rover head unit, 4 holes in total.

Push the metal into the holes until they go no further, and shimmy and pull the unit out.

Gee, I hope I didn't just make that all up.

are there 4 little plastic/rubber plugs blocking the holes? if so, they just lever out.

if not, perhaps it isnt the standard stereo in there?

Hmm...can't remember...is there a face plate you have to remove to get to the holes?

I'll try and check it out later for you.

Do you have the standard Land Rover tape deck in the dash?

Does it have a slot on each side near the edge?

Just looked and it has the 2 slots .1 on either side as Mahn has stated .

Like mine then.

You will need two pieces of steel to insert into the slots to release the locking tabs. I had some bits hanging around that did the job. Try hacksaw blades for size

You then rock the set side to side to work it out keeping the steel in while you do it.

Hope this works for you Mick :)

ahh..the old slots hey, must be the next model deck from mine.

If you already have the replacement deck, see if it has the metal sliders you need.

Most new decks have the same type of metal sliders to remove them.

Always thought that was great "security" feature!!

Hope you do a better job than who ever installed the head unit into my Disco, all the surround is cracked and smashed and looks dog ugly now!
Bit of black gaffa tape over the top might tidy it up a little to disguise it all....;)

Cheers,

I got the head unit out easy enough ;) . I have now installed the new pioneer cd player and a pair of 4" fusion speakers in the front doors . The sound is 100% better than standard and i can actually here bass in the music now :p. Thanks for the help :D.
