Testing Stepper Motor

Is it possible to check/test the electrical inputs to the stepper motor?

I suspect mine isn't working, but since it's brand new genuine part I'm at a loss as to why.

1. Started engine
2. Pulled plug on the stepper
3. Stopped engine.
4. Unscrewed stepper motor
5. Reattached plug to stepper
6. Positioned stepper so plunger can be seen from the cab.
7. Turned ignition on (don't start car)
8. Watched stepper wind itself back in.

Positive test for me so that's ruled out......


9. Turn off ignition and reconnect stepper.
