The one bloke I know of with one wouldn't part with it for a million.
I'd assume the three other G class owners in Australia would be the same:o:D.

There was a bloke selling three on ebay a couple of weeks ago.
I was that tempted.
They were automatics, so not that tempted.

How about a GL class? You get a V6 t/diesel, 7 speed auto, ask for the off road pack and you get low range, centre and rear diff locks and adjustable air susp.... nice

I love the way that they are built but the only one I ever drove was a Dog with a captial D .
Absolutely gutless and happy at about 80-90kmh

When/if they decide to bring in civilian models after the military ones start arriving here it will be an interesting moral dilemma.
I've said it a number of times now but Ive got it bad for a G-Wagen.
As for the GL, it is a Prado for people with too much money.

The newer ones are much more powerful with nicer interiors but retain the heavyduty consruction, 3 diff locks etc. If only they made them in RHD!!!
Are the new army ones RHD?

I can't imagine our military not having right hand drive vehicles.... that would be weird with a capital dubbaya.
as for slow etc... take a look at this: Mercedes G55 AMG | First Drives | Car Reviews | Auto Express (http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/carreviews/firstdrives/65040/mercedes_g55_amg.html)

At $13k, I will keep looking.
They do tend to peak at 90km/h.
I think my problem is that i get bored with cars and as soon I have my new vehicle sorted, I usually end up selling it.
Hmm
Patience I must learn.

Late reply warning.
I'm lucky enough to have a 1992 300GE which arrived in Australia through Hong Kong a number of years ago. It's my pride and joy.
Auto, full leather, full electrics, heated seats, sunroof etc and has traveled a 'mere' 154,000kms. It'll cruise at 110 easily with the max i've had it at would be 130 or thereabouts overtaking. It's a magic car that turns heads like nothing else. Pic below :D

There's a lot of "Defenderness" in that G-Wagon photo. Flat windscreen. Boxy. I can see the attraction.
Nice BM next to it too.

Cheers, they are quite similar in terms of them being designed by a bloke who only had a ruler. I actually took home a Defender 90 from ULR in Malvern (melbourne) a few years back (just before they stopped bringing them out) as an alternative but changed my mind when it wouldn't fit under the garage at work. Interior pic of the G

That looks a lot like the inside of my W123 Coupe! Same look and feel.
Buckets more luxury than a Defender then, by the looks

Very nice G-wagen! I think I recently saw that pic you posted on Ozbenz?
That'd have the same M103 6cyl petrol from the W124 300E yeah? I'd imagine it should drive very nicely indeed. Did they change the autobox for one that pulls away in 1st for the G class?

G'day Folks :)
That looks and sounds like a Toorak Tractor that has moved/retired up to Agnes Waters and has had 6 months Qld Rego stuck on it, and being unsuitable for beach fishing has now been put on the market, I would look closely for signs of RUST :( and $9-10K would kill it.
cheers

Thanks mate. As far as i know it's the same engine, although i'm not all that mechanically minded. I'm not sure about the auto, but it pulls away quite well in first, reverse is the 'torqueiest' gear ever though!
It'll never break any speed records but it's an awesome cruiser

The red one? It's been for sale for a LONG while now. There's a a tidy looking SWB per the link below

There's also a G-Wagen club for anyone who's interested, all 20-30 members or so, they know pretty much everything there is to know and can sometimes get a heads up on cars before they go on the market
