I have a Eurovox 5780R stereo in my LRD II with no CD changer. I have bought an iPod interface from the U.S.A. (Alantic British) with a special datalink cable (changer to stereo) because there is no CD changer cable under the driver's seat.
The datalink cable does not have the right connector for the stereo, and I cannot find a car audio specialist who knows what I need. Can any LRD owners give me some advice on this?
Cheers,
Lance

Would'nt be too expensive to change to an aftermarket sterio with cd and ipod interface included would it? Or could'nt you just use a fm transmitter on your ipod and just tune your radio in?

I have the same audio system in my Disco, with the four door-mount speakers.
If you don't want to change the audio head there are a few other options worth pursuing
I bought aBelkin iPod radio tuner/charger and the charger won't fit into the Disco's 12v socket and tho I haven't tried it on the LR, reception in another car I tried (a new LC200 GXL) was shocking. Really muffled. Perhaps it was me, I don't know.
When I bought my car the prev owner had a cassette tape converter - I don't know what it is called or if you can get them anymore, but it looks like an old school cassette that you slip into the casette player as usual but it has an aux cord/jack leading out of it. Plugged this into my Ipod and while I don't have charge facility, the sound is as good as it gets for the LR system.

Mate when I went looking for an adaptor for my ipod, all of the adaptors were to suit an alpine "hi line" radio which is the one you find in an ES model as you can see here land rover ipod adaptor (http://www.oemautosound.com/pc-543-158-land-rover-ipod-interface.aspx)
i would expect if the connector is wrong, then the unit wont work with your current radio no matter which conversion harness you put on it as the actual data sent between the radio and the ipod adaptor will be different.
my recommendation since your vehicle doesnt have steering wheel controls (i assume this as it sounds like the base sound system) would be to return the unit your purchased, go to a store and get a Pioneer or equivelant brand headunit with ipod input integrated into the unit.
i recommend this as since you dont have a factory changer, you will most likely need to run wires for an adaptor which means you need to remove the headunit anyway, you will potentially get a bit better sound out of the aftermarket unit and you wont suffer any of the small bugs associated with the aftermarket adaptors.
the other option would be to persue an alpine head unit as shown in the link above.. i assume it might just plug into the existing loom.

This is the unit I will be getting for fathers day!! :D Has no CD slot but I dont use CD's anymore so it is the perfect unit for my purposes. I only use iPod now. I have changed the speakers over already (100% improvement especially in the bass & clarity) & I bought some A pillar trims with the tweeters in them from a wrecked Disco. The loom was already there so just needed to plug them in, again a fantastic improvement for only $22 each from AMV.(Depending on stock!!)
Alpine Electronics of Australia (http://www.alpine.com.au/products/product.asp'modelID=363)
Its a single DIN unit & fits perfectly into the dash.
