removing diff centre on a disco1

do i need to take the axels out to get the centre out or will it just come out after undoing the nuts and taking the tail shaft out??

Axles out first.

both axles have to come out around 4inches each

its all out now, i just cant tell if its stuffed or not lol

go back under the car and feel around in the bottom of the diff housing,
if you get steel lumps and the oil is very metallic i would say yes, it's stuffed.
why did you pull it out?.
