Im about to do a full service on my 10000 warn low mount

Any one interested in a full tutorial with pics on the service including the brake and inside the brake drum
My winch is in desperate need of a service after failed winching attempts last weekend , The brake is locking on and dragging way too much power from my battery:eek:
If there is interest ill do the full pic plus write up , if not bad luck for some:p

I don't, but I like to see stinky low mounts and the build up of grunge they collect inside them:D

yeah that would be great. Is the internals of the 10,000 similar to the XD9000? I have one of these and have been toying up whether I do my own service or get it down elsewhere.

Where? Also does the low mount have the strength for 6hp?

Also, how much difference is there in motor length with the 6hp?

Well it should be going back together this weekend , I pick up the 6hp motor on wednesday

I have lots of pics for the tutorial and some filthy pics for matt (mat:p)

I might paint it aswell yet

Oh and for Slunnie the low mount will handle the 6hp motor , Ive been told by a warn service agent the low mount is a stonger winch than the highmount

The lowmount being a lower geared winch than the highmount;)

Excellent, thanks for this Rangieman.

Can I also ask a small favour.... Would you please be able to tell me the difference in length between the 6hp and the 4.5hp motors. I'd love to upgrade the motor in my winch but I'm not sure if the chassis will allow the fitment - possibly I might be able to flip the winch upside down though.

Interestingly, I was out with Tusker yesterday who has just fitted a 6hp to his Highmount.... OMG, compared to what we're used to - it positively screamed!

Well i checked the length before i went down this road and im told the 6hp is 50mm longer than the 4.6hp , Im also told if room is at a premium you can fit your old end cap off the 4.6 onto the 6hp to save a bit of room;)

Ahhh, thats interesting. Thanks for this. I wonder what the difference comes down to after that.

That does mean then that if I flip the winch and install it like a 10,000lb that the motor will sit in the bar mount cutout.... I think. I'll have to check it all out.

Yep back together and running just need to spool the cable on;)

Sorry no measurements with the change in end caps as the 6hp motor runs a ball
bearing pressed on to the shaft and the which i thought was a 4.6hp motor which turned out to be a 2.5hp motor runs a bush in the end cap

I did,nt have the right tools at home to be pressing and removing bearings to be able to get those pics and measurements for you slunnie (sorry)

No probs at all, thanks for looking though.

Is the big heat sink on the end of it part of the motor end, or is that part removable?

Removable just replace it with your existing cover , thats all i did and i replaced it with the one off my 2.5hp motor;)

Exellent, thanks for this!. It looks like I can flip the winch and poke the motor through the bullbar mount, but I didnt think the heatsink would fit through. Sounds like a strip and rebuild job for next hols! I'll have to study your guide before doing it though as it'll be a learning experience.

Its not that hard once you see whats invovled ,The only tricky part is the brake (my fault) but ill go in to that in more detail latter;)
