View Full Version : Stronger clutch for LT85

Hi, I have an LT85 gearbox in my 110 is in need of a stronger clutch.

I have found Xtreme Clutch - All Australian Clutches (http://www.xtremeclutch.com.au) who offer the KLR28002 range for the "5-speed Isuzu 4BD1 diesel fitted 1/86-12/91". Would that be the LT85 gearbox and has anybody used their clutches?

Are there any other stronger than standard clutches available?

Hi John,
The years you have quoted would cover when LT85's were fitted to Isuzus. What exactly are you looking for: a stronger pressure plate or a stronger clutch plate. You can get a turbo pressure plate if you suspect it is slipping (Isuzu part 8970317592) which is a heavier one and bolts straight onto the flywheel. I cant help you with any ideas for a stronger clutch plate if that is what you are after. Regards....Brian

Probably both uprated ;-) Didn't actually say that is for a tweaked injected small block....

Going to go for a Centerforce DF271675, I think the current (burnt) clutch might have been a Jag one.

Was thinking about this and I think that the rover v8 clutch had a spline the same as many american engines/gearboxes. I have heard that it would fit some chev gearboxes. So my thought is perhaps you should look at a clutch that is made for your small block and will take the power/torque, and has the right spline. Then 'just' make an adapter for the throw out bearing if neccessary.
But if you wanted to go the isuzu way, I would look at the turbo clutch as some guys on here seem be putting some serious torque through them. (i.e more than 350Nm).

the friction plate and pressure plate combo from the milspec 6x6 4bdi-t is allegedly rated at 500nm BUT there is no official documentation that Ive been able to find that supports it

I'll have to recheck some info but there is a combination of either the turbo plate with the non turbo pressure plate or vice versa that does not give you a healthy life.

My 120" 110 (4BD1T and LT85) now runs a Part No R1080N and is so called heavy duty.
The pedal is heavy and friction point is a bit savage for my likeing .:(
Cost was around $500ish for the kit.

You've got those numbers around the wrong way, 530Nm is closer to what I've currently got.:angel:

The Centerforce clutch is a GM part (rated up to 90% stronger than standard GM and ideal for torquey engines and/or oversize tyres - I run 35"s). I knew the LT85 was 10 spline and I need a 10.5" clutch as the LT85 bellhousing cannot take larger. I asked Centerforce about the diaphragm fingers to go with the LT release bearing, they said the DF271675 has raised diaphragm fingers and should be used with a flat face bearing - which is luckily what the LR one is :-) Currently the clutch kit is on its way from the US.....

I hve access to the 4Terrain range from Clutch Industries here in WA. Can check the listings if you like. PM me and I will get back to you with a number.

have supplied quite a few of these for Toymota Handbruisers and Rolux and had excellent feedback.

And I am an Exedy dealer too!! We use these where someone needs extended performance.
