Hi all,
I had to charge the battery from my 2001 P38A HSE today, got it out without waking up the neighbourhood by following the instructions in the handbook. BUT, when it came time to put it back in - alarm goes off - followed instruction to turn key to Position I - no luck - neighbours awake so put it away till tomorrow. Anybody have any ideas why the method described in the manual did not work? Tried it twice
Regards to all, have gained a lot if info for my various LRs from your site

I've never read or followed any instructions in the book and I pull disconnect my battery anytime I'm doing anything electrical or whenever I charge the battery on my P38A.
If the alarm goes off, I merely press the remote button to lock/unlock the car.

I've never had any trouble with the alarm when I disconnect the battery.
Only pain is having to reset the windows and sunroof.
Oh, and the first time after re connecting the battery, I use the key to lock and unlock the doors, which seems to be required.

Theres a procedure for disconecting the battery on P38's with a battery backed up alarm. When re-connected the Alarm panics and goes into armed mode.
Maybe close the door before connecting the battery, with the window down. NEVER LEAVE KEYS INSIDE so many people have been locked out by the overly obsessive compulsive alarm system.

I decided I needed a CHEAP portable 12V power source so I bought one of those colourful plastic storage cubes from Kaymart or wherever and bolted in a 70 AH "$40 special" . I wired in a couple of cig lighter sockets through a 30 amp relay. The battery is left connected to a trickle charger when otherwise not in use...(powering a cheap and cheerful 12V cordless drill that's no longer cordless...a 150W inverter ...etc etc)
Like Ron, I disconnect the RR battery when I'm working on the vehicle. However, if I need to charge the RR battery, I simply drag out the "cube" and connect it to the RR with a cable made for this purpose which puts the vehicle on "battery bypass" no more stu$$ing around having to reset things...
