View Full Version : LT 95

I have just managed to acquire a Stage 1 LT95 with an attached overdrive. I bought it for the O/D not the box which I will keep for spares.
The LT95 in a 101 has a shorter bell housing and I assume shorter input shaft. Anyone know if there other differences between the two gearboxes.
Thanks

What happened to the rest of the Stage 1 - particularly the front end?

Hi Gary
So your the one with the deep pockets:). I had a bid on that for the same reason, overdrives are rare as. The only difference in the gearbox may be the transfer gear ratio's. I'm not sure which the stage 1 had. Either way you'll want to swap to the late range rover ones ( highest ratio ) for decent road speed. That gearbox's also has the double cardon front drive flange which might be interesting to try on the 101 as they wear the front prop joints due to the high angle.
Cheers

Dunno - the guy did want to sell me a second LT95 but I already have too much landrover and jaguar crap cluttering up my yard.
But then, one cannot ever have too much clutter.

Dave,
Unfortunately the pockets are very shallow - it is Mastercard that has the deep pockets. I have missed a couple of O/Ds and they are always a risk to buy. At least this one is attached to the gearbox so will be complete. I guess I could always sell the box and offset the cost a little - after I take off the double cardin joint:D.
The other advantage for me was this was near where my relatives are so it was no cost to me for them to pick up.

Thanks Garry
I'm always keeping my ear to the ground in case I break an axle on the front of my second SIIB. The SIIB halfshafts are made of unobtanium, at least Hi-Tough can make some hybrid halfshafts using the Stage 1 swivels and CVs.

Diana, you do realise that any axle can be made by any axle/diff specialist, there is many around, its only a case of providing spline count/pitch/length etc and material and heat treatment desired

Ah yes
But not if they have a yoke for a Spicer joint, the weakest point of the SIIB drivetrain. Hence the want of a Stage 1 swivel, CV and housing they are a straight swap for the Series housing even the same for the track rod and drag links, one of which is missing on the County or Range Rover swivels. More than that Mal Story made up the brooch to cut the ENV splines so he could make a full set of halfshafts for me just before he retired.
The other issue is the heat treatment, a friend had some halfshafts made to mate a Ford 9" to Land Rover drive flanges, the shafts were laser true when they went for heat treatment and like bananas when they returned. Hence the trust of Maxi-Drive and now Hi-Tough.

Ahhh, yes, my drunken apologies:angel:, they use a uni as opposed to a CV joint, whilst they can be made, its alot more difficult and $$$$:(
