A 4BD1T with no exhaust or dump pipe...:twisted::twisted:

It sounds like a cross between a Jet turbine and a Deutz. With no dump pipe I could hear the turbo whine constantly.

Drove it to the exhaust place today. He is very busy (fitting it in between jobs), and doesn't like the lack of space in the engine bay... (needs to squeeze in a 3" flex pipe and 3" mandrel system...)

So far, no problems at all with the install. Turbo is 100% and the oil stays where it is supposed to.

Sorry - forgot that I have a ricer turbo - I shd hv typd txt spk lol - f'ly sik m8

Don't they howl:twisted:, When I cut mine off under cab and then put a stack up the back of cab with inverted Hot Dog it still has awsome Turbo whine even at tick over:twisted:.But not to noisy:) Mine is only 2 &/2":(
3" mandrel would be great. I have noticed a bit of pressure buildes up on my 2 &1/2" on full song.
Hope yours goes well when done. Tony

that whistle from the turbo is friggen bad noise.
actually a [margueritz?] deutz is a bad noise.[ansett buses - nice body though]
why do you want it to make **** loads of obnoxious noise, and perform badly?

Makes parts of my body twitch just thinking about that sound, Inc is right, I love the sound of my Suzi but, it's like comparing sitting on Santa's lap to a naughty lapdance with Jennifer Hawkins, they have similar content in the description but are totally different.

Try 600+hp of Chrysler 426 Hemi under load at 6000rpm through four x 3" tailpipes. Best street engine noise I was ever party to.

Or the sound from a turbo Offy pulling 1400hp, 12,500rpm, and 70" boost on the Champion Spark Plug development dyno at Long Beach. A Gurney AAR engine. I was there. You can feel and taste the sound through double filled block walls.

2 things, Champion plugs are devils semen and 70" of boost? should be PSI, your showing your age Brian:D

But yea, I;d rather listen to a mopar V8 any day:cool:

You are correct. Ahlzheimer's strikes again. It was 70psi total pressure. 55lb. of boost over atmospheric. They had the wastegate wired shut to see what they could get in terms of both boost and power. There was a mandatory preset wastegate for Indianapolis so in theory everyone ran the same boost. Of course there was a considerable amount of human ingenuity applied to this (cheating?) to get around the rules. They were doing a lot of testing of alternate ignition systems on these engines at the time. Magnetos had been found wanting at the revs and pressures involved and spikes were destroying a few engines. These were the early days of electronic ignition systems and there were a lot of odd designs and theories about, and this sort of engine performance was completely uncharted territory. These were only about 2.6 litre four cylinder engines that had to run 500 miles plus, hopefully, practice and qualifying.

One of these engines, a late one at that, was for sale two years ago, stated to be unused. US$25000. Not clear whether this was new unused, or unused after overhaul. Not really much use except as an exhibit unless you have an Indy car of the period needing an engine.

You would need to tow a tank trailer for the methanol blend. These little jiggers were just a tad thirsty.

I forget where it was polled, but this was supposedly voted the best sounding engine of all time. A 1953 BRM V16

I neither agree nor disagree, there are a lot of awsome sounding engines out there.

I was impressed when I fired up my 4BD1t for the first time with just a short header pipe.

Sorry, but neither of those examples come anywhere near close to Mike Hailwood's 250cc 6 cyl Honda GP bike (around 1966).

This video clip (http://www.cmsnl.com/classic-honda-gallery/download_media.php?s_keyword=6&CheckBoxList1%5B%5D=movie&CheckBoxList1%5B%5D=sound&gl_mediaPage=26&id=43) pales by comparison to when Hailwood had it on full song.

Either Gilera or Guzzi had Maserati build them a 1000cc V6 for the European 1000km race series in the sixties. This was an attractive little engine with almost no extraneous bits hanging off it. It looked like a little car engine with its triple throat Webers. Wound up to peak revs in top on the long straights of Pescara it made an amazing sound.

The link didn't work for me :(

From memory, Guzzi ran the 500cc V8 in 1958. Ridden by Aussie Keith Cambell, it did 180 mph in the German GP that year. Unfortunately I never saw/heard it in action.

Edit: To save another off topic post.

The single cylinder 500cc Guzzi GP bike was a great package, so much so that it continued to win world championships against the 4 cyl Gilera, which had about 25% more power. The horizontal cylinder allowed a more effective inlet port configuration giving power that the Norton Manx and the Matchless could not achieve with their vertical cylinder.

I know I'm going to get mocked for this, but I'll tell you all anyway.

A couple of years back, I was biking home from work and I heard the best sounding road car ever turn the corner below and start climbing the hill towards me.
Perfectly pitched turbo whistle that drowned out the engine, with a muted waffle of the blow-off valve at each gear change.

2 seconds later I was passed by a honda city turbo II.:D
