brings back memories of teaching my kids to drive at an early age, all started on a beach at about 8 yrars old in an old toyota cruiser. Oldest sons first drive was the most remembered because he ended up planting the foot in 1st low range and headed up in the dunes before I could rectify the problem. This was all done on deserted beaches, with the kids having complete control (for want of a better description) sitting solo in the drivers seat. Some may say not clever but my kids have only had minor scrapes in there cars. I started driving (steering) straped to a tractor seat at age 5

huh?
The wally's telling you, your a bad parent and how irresponsible you are, but in "nicer" terms;)
My nephew started off in his booster seat, in the paddock in my brothers V8 lux, with the hand throttle out a touch and 1st low, he was fine, leave in the car himself, only problem was when he wanted to come see you, he'd drive towards you, had to quickly pop out and stop for him:D

Wrong........ and don't call me a Wally please :p
Ahhh, now I see your confuzzlement
When he asked huh? I was pointing out that YOU were referring TO the Wally's that'll post up about the rights and wrongs
I wasn't calling you a wally:)
Kinda thinking it now but:p:D

I knew what NM meant, then I thought Rovercare was calling NM a wally.....then having read his response.....now see that RC wasnt calling NM a W, but was in fact referring to perhaps others:D. That said, when I was a youngster, I was driving an old Toyota Cruiser trayback at around 8-9 yrs old, its how I learnt to drive....mind you was on a farm. Plus use to ride an AG100, that weighed 10 times as much as me, my feet couldnt touch the ground and literally had to slow down and jump to the side onto the ground whilst braking at the same time so that I could stop it. Folks nowdays would consider that bad parenting, along with a pic of myself at around 10-11, with a lever action Winchester to one side of me and a can of good ol Country Bitter to the other side.........old man forgot to pack a cool drink for me on a hard days shooting :).

er, we got taught to steer young also, i actually caused my mum to roll the 2 1/2 riley by climbing over her shoulder when i was a real little takker, i can remember steering the first mainline sitting on dads lap, and the third mainline mum pranged whilst passing a line of fifteen cars at full noise when a car about the middle of the pack pulled out, so she was committed to pass that also, which brought us undone, grandad grabbed the door handle to hang on and promptly fell out! but i digress,
i drove my first semi at thirteen when i swapped seats with dad on the move - 13 and i had a fully loaded 190 inter in my control on the newell! i know he was packing it when we got to a narrow bridge and another semi was coming the other way, we passed on the bridge ok and then it was time for me to get back to my side!
lots of tractors and cars on private property while i was a kid, another time mum wanted some chow food and dad was away, so L plates on the 64 fairlane and off to hampton street up south road, don't know if mum could see the speedo, but she changed her mind and we went up to moorabbin to see her folks, crossed hampton street and had a ton on the clock just past st leonards, bit of a rise there, so i decided that i might really get in the poo if she saw the speedo and slowed it down.
another trip i had same car at 95 mph with six blokes on board up country when we had been on a fishing trip, straight road and 'give it a bit' was called by the pax, dad did chip me and we had to slow it a bit.
i could go on, but not now.

Small Rant coming :), for starters post back up that video, it was very cute and adorable. Secondly Weeds, I know what you are referring to as well with your previous thread. Now let me say this, who freakin cares, yes you will always get someone saying something......ssooooooooooooo what. As soon as you take down a video, or a pic or decide to not post either again, you have bowed down to the naysayers, the whingers, the pedantic etc etc. It does my head in when people do that. If I posted same videos and somebody had a say about it...good on 'em. They are always in the minority................always.
Case in point, recent article about a woman expressing milk for her baby in a parents room at a Westfield shopping centre. Appears whilst she was doing it, she was having a quick bite to eat. A kid complained to his mummy ( what a nance), she reported to management, then a cop and security came and had a chat to her. Now if the tool who took the complaint had any nounce, would have told complainee to professionally bugger orf....instead of embarass this poor woman. Its a PARENTS ROOM, if the brat hadnt seen a tit before, woe is him, my missus hooks up like a scene at a dairy, our kids are around, no big deal, so that if she is doing some work, I can feed my child as I work from home.
Anyway, anyone with nounce will know my point, and unfortunate that we have to start getting paranoid about some things in life that are so simple and for gods sake normal.

Sorry, NM, I know you aren't really a woman. Umm, that didn't come out right!
:D:D:D
I mean you are interested in restoring Landies - that's uncommon for a woman. My wife has no interest in Landies - at all, at all. (Thinks: Have I wheedled my way out of that one or have I made it worse?)

Put my little girl in a go-kart (proper one) at 7/8 Y.O. which she continued to race upto the age of 16. Got her licence first time at age 18 (or so) and dispite an accident a few years ago, I sleep well knowing at nearly 21, she has 13 or so years experience behind the wheel. "starting them young" is the only way to go

I think its great for kids to learn to drive or ride yound. Gives them confidence and a better respect for driving. Also makes sure they can drive properly before getting their license. Obvously in an area that is free from other people.

I learned to drive around the paddock whilst a kid. I bought my first car (I picked strawberries to get the money buy it) when I was 12. Dad supported me in that. I learned a lot about engines, etc. from that. I bought a motor scoooter when I was about the same age.
I started my son driving (on my employer's 4WD Kia Ceres) when he was 12. He bought his first bike when he was 12.
