After placing the order months ago, our new SVX is on a ship ETA Brisbane 21 September. Then apparently two weeks to dealer prep it and then we get our (my) dream car. Wife is catching on but still not 100% convinced that a defender was the best choice.
The new Defender has been getting a lot of negative comment on this forum, so it was very refreshing to see the Appreciation thread start to hear all the good about them.
Dealer yesterday really insulted me, Took our Disco in for trade in valuation, He offered $1500. The new tyres alone are worth almost that, the bull bar alone is almost that, I could go on. So it will go private sale.
Getting so excited about the new vehicle . Rekindling frienships all over the country just so I can go visit when it arrives. Can't wait to see the SVX. It has so many unique features that are unseen. Seems to be a good mix of the vehicle I love and just the right amount of luxury to appeal to my wife.
Sadly although it is MY car it has to be my wifes daily commute, so she has been instructed on the Defender wave and has promised not to let the side down.
Look forward to sharing pics with you all when it arrives.

Getting very excited.
Our Disco is the 300Tdi, we do have a few people lined up to come see it, I'm hoping it will go soon.
The Land Rover wave, we have had Disco for 5 years and have had very little response to our waves to other Disco's. Maybe it is just our area.

Same here near Sydney. Had a Defender for many years..lots of waves. Then when we got our Disco no-one waved. Now we have an 06 Defender, we get waves again (not from Discos though).
Good luck selling your Disco.

My dealer informed me that All Australia's SVX's were indeed all being shipped together. My delivery will also be around second week October. Can't wait.
As for the thread going on storage in Defenders, I am looking forward to seeing where Land Rover fit (or place) the supplied first aid kit and fire extinguisher.

One of our Doctors at work is getting the SVX. Lives in Perth area outskirts. I think out Dirty Dawgs way.
He managed to get one that someone else had pulled out of. He admits he did pay too much when compared to a standard Defender as the options just dont add up to the extra cost. But he loves his Defenders.
Not sure if he has been on this site yet, but did tell him about it a few weeks ago.
I believe he is also expecting his mid October.

This bad press the new Defender is getting - you generally hear these things on websites. I've done 27 000km in mine - driven it all over the country. Nothing has gone wrong. It's the best vehicle I have ever driven, period.
Enjoy your new truck. :)

What are they doing to it ?

The Defender is the quickest LRs to PD. No transit mode crap, no personalisation, no EAS to programme.....
It should be out the next day once the dealer get's his hands on it.

Hi everyone,
Have been silently reading away at the many posts here and have learnt alot and laughed heaps!
I ordered an svx last december, and have been eagerly awaiting its arrival. It seems to have been quite a roller coaster ride, in regards to bad points relating to the puma and the good points! One week I am sold and the next week I was ready to cancel the order. Now that it is getting closer I think the excitement has taken over. The defender has always been my dream car and was ready to get the new defender until I saw the svx. I know it's quite flash compared to the standard defender, but it seems to be a great balance for my wife and kids.
The dealership told me yesterday that the svx was now in the holding yard and will be delivered in the next 2 or so weeks. Won't get my hopes up until I am driving it home though. I received an emailed with a purchase contract, which had the total driveaway price at $71,380. I thought this seemed a little high so I rang two other dealers in sydney, who both had one svx still available. They quoted a driveaway price of $69,110 and $69,780.
Emailed my dealer, so will be interested to hear his story, or maybe he just had a little addition problem. They also informed me that the deliveries would be staggered over the next 3 months, with around 80 svx's in total. Not really sure what is the real story is anymore??
Anyhow enough dealer talk, thanks for the entertainment so far!

There's one here in WA. Ordered mine in Feb. Reported from the dealer that only two where coming to WA and I managed to get my hands on the second one. When reading all the gaf on the SVX it was stated that only 26 where heading to Oz but now I've seen numbers like 32? Can anyone shed some light on this?

It seems we have all been given a different story.
What I have been told is that it was 1 per small dealer, 2 per major dealer with some big dealers to get smaller dealers allotment. And then 4 or five extra to that number. The original allotment was 36. They believe this number has grown slightly.
In Brisbane mine still has not arrived. Still on the computer as shipped. ETA 21st September.
Can't wait

I am still being charged the higher luxury tax on mine. Even though it was voted down.
Apparently I will get a refund when Land Rover are sure that the higher tax is not applicable.
Is this the case with you others?

I was told it was a co-ordinated world wide release, the boys in the UK get theirs the same time as us. I have not read of anybody getting one yet on any of the various forums i have been checking, it would be nice to see some new photo's.......i getting tired of the few that are on the net.

The ship docks in Perth first. It's on it's way from South Africa, so it makes sense the WA boys will get theirs first. There's no ww release and the 90's are already available in the UK.
I'm not a fan of the 90's..looks like a bad design.. but the below is 1 guys spin on it.
For a pic go to: Inside Track: Hell is a Defender SVX (http://msnukcars.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!9147D27F85A04C56!3575.entry)
Peter Burgess writes:
This is a picture of the Land Rover Defender SVX in the office car park. As far as I am concerned that’s where it can stay. I took it home for the first time last night, and now I am grateful I didn’t take it the previous weekend. I was going to but I needed space for a couple of hundred bottles of wine and there was no chance in the SVX. Despite no rear seats, the spare wheel is carried inside and the floor is super high to this model. I used the Vauxhall Agila instead, which coped admirably. Something wrong there, surely.
The SVX is a convertible. Or rather it has a fabric roof which you’d need a week to remove, probably a month to replace. The much vaunted stereo is one of those dreadful Clarion units that defy logic and can’t be operated without a magnifying glass. But the worst thing is the ride. The suspension seems to do very little suspending but it does delight at jarring your vertebrae at every possible opportunity. It’s the worst in living memory. This Defender makes the same statement as walking around with a pit bull on a lead. Except instead of a bloody leg, you’ll end up with a dislocated spine.
Peter

I decided to cancel my svx order yesterday, and get my deposit back. For those interested there are still a few dealers in NSW with svx's unsold. They are willing to discount them, despite the word on these svx's not being discounted. After a few days of shopping around, the driveaway price was a few thousand below the rrp!

G’day all. Just a little note if you guys don’t already know. The ‘Owners Manual’ for the SVX is available to down load from the links on the Land Rover UK web site. I won’t comment. I’ll leave it up to the individual to makeup their own minds on what they think of it.

Yeah, there are a few questions the ‘Owners Manual’ raised for myself! The resetting of the alarm when the remote battery goes flat? What a load of rigmarole! Connections for a trailer plug and the dash board indication light? Will it still work if I get a non genuine towbar and wiring harness fitted? I guess we’ll all figure it out in good time.
Hay Brocky, When I ordered mine, I was told that there was only two coming to WA. If that’s still the case. If you see another SVX on the road in Perth, it’s me. So G’day mate:thumbsup:

well what i heard about the svx's in wa was that there where only 2 coming to WA and they where snapped up pretty quickly ie. before anyone else knew about them, well then the dealership was able to get 2 more, one is for the dealership owner (alf) and we got the other one..
i actually made a call to the other landrover dealership in perth to see if they had any in, well they didnt but they thought they could get there hands on one from the eastern states...
ever way, looks like there will only be a few of us on the road.

Can't see why not. It has to be the same as every other Defender and standard Aus-spec trailer wiring just splices into the harness in behind the RH rear wheel. Most auto-electricians leave the standard UK-spec plug in place and splice in the wires behind it. The only thing to watch for is if you have LED trailer lights because the resistence is so low the system thinks there is a bulb out.

Other things to note:
If you use a standard Land Rover bar then you can keep the rear step but it limits the size of any aux fuel tank you might want to fit. If you use a Hayman Reece bar the step has to go but you can replace the standard fuel tank with a much bigger long range one.

If you want the genuine towbar so you can keep your step, but also with a larger fuel tank, it can be done. There is a 45l aux tank that goes in the rear section behind the fuel filler and gravity feeds into the main tank - these are from OL. I have one and it's great. I can get about 1200km from a full tank.

Excellent Solmanic, that’s exactly the information I was chasing. I was already contemplating a Reese hitch but I was unsure of the long range tank thing. Yeah so thanks again, much appreciated. Dito to Scallops thanks for the info.

Don't know if there is anything other than the OEM tow bar for the new Defender. As usually it's an Australian spec unit, but it is very well done.
