Fellow Defender addicts
Having read the Service Bulletin SSM38792 posted elsewhere on this site I am trying to work out whether my soon-to-be-delivered (this week) Defender is a candidate for the problem.
The bulletin states "This condition will not occur on vehicles post assured Vin# 9A767162" It also states that the fix is to replace the engine "but ensure only engines post serial #ELD000807063602 are used".
I have been told my vehicle has a Vin #9A765132 (which tells me I have the problem) and engine No. #07132745 (which tells me I don't have the problem!!!
Can anyone demystify the connection between Vin and engine number??
PS I am a new member - thoroughly enjoying this site so far.

Welcome briann,

Seeing that it is an engine related problem I would think that engine no. would take precedence over chassis no. in this instance however I wouldn't stake my life on that.

I would of thought a quick call to the service department could sort that out. Bit of an odd one though!

The engine knock problem is effecting alot of new motors, our work Prado has been sent back for it and I looked it up on the Prado forum and it is very common.I can't help but think the fuel is the common denominator. Pat
