Just finished the upgrade to my RR P38 and pretty happy with it!
When i bought it from Vic, it was like running while breathing through a straw. A quick stop at hi-tech exhaust Sydney showed the problem;
2 x Chinese cats suited to a 1.4L Diahatsu :eek:
1 x Commodore exhaust
1 x no-name resonator
15 x exhaust leaks
Took me a while to get it all sorted as i really wanted to get it done right and in stainless for beach driving.
New fit out includes;
304 stainless throughout
2 x extractors
2 x American SS cats with 200 cells
1 x custom ss exhaust
2 custom SS resonators
2 x SS exhaust pipes (that are maybe just a little too big for the back of the car!)
I was worried that it might make me sound like a hooning idiot but am pretty happy with it. Has a solid but mellow note when cruising and deathly proud rumble when up on the revs! :cool:
The videos below are pretty amatureish haven't chance to do anything properly yet and these are taken on my mobile phone but still give fair feel of sound....
I'll put some before and after pics up soon. In the mean time, check the videos below...
Hope this doesn't offend anyone :twisted::twisted::twisted:

:eek::confused::confused::confused: Its a P38. They were sleepers.
I hope you are not a shift worker:eek: You may not make friends. Sounds mean though. Now you need a blower on it:twisted:

I was worried that it would drone or just be annoyingly loud - it's still a sleeper though!?! Just purrs along quietly until it hits high revs:cool:

It's still sleepy when it needs to be ;)
I just moved to a very quiet part of the Shire in Sydney and no-one in the neighbourhood have heard it rev yet, pretty keen to keep it on the low down and not look like a 4WD rev head :angel:

sounds awesome!! Wonder if my 3.9 could sound that good. I'm running stock manifolds with two Lukey Ultraflow mufflers.
It gets really crackly like a Holden 253 once the revs pickup.
****s me to tears......
Really....
Like drivin an English Sandman PV, but try finding the space to fit two mufflers under there...

Do you need to fit 2? I've only got the one in mine. Seems odd that it goes from 2 pipes to 1 then back out to 2 again but the guys at Hi Tech mufflers assure me it's perfectly fine setup like that... Is this right? Seems fine...

The later P38A were changed to a 2-1-2 pipe exhaust to reduce drive-by noise levels.

Hi,
your setup is pretty much what I am looking for, some minor differences but the main thing I want is extractors. I have looked around and it seems they need to be customised to suit the P38. I have a 2002 4.6 HSE and I would love extractors. Can you tell me what you used, please?
Cheers Mick

Sorry Mick, the extractors were already on when i got it - bit of Frankenstein since it also had the tiny cats and Commodore muffler!?!?

Sob sob... :( it seems I am left to do it myself.
Cheers for the sounds though, very cool rangie noises. Eventually I will go for a set of extractors to some good cats into a single pipe and good muffler and out a single pipe at the rear.
Thanks again

Hi David,
could you tell me what your extractors look like? I am wondering if they are the Tri-Y style or tuned length style or shorty style. And also where are the O2 sensors fitted? Are they screwed into the extractors or into the pipe after the extractors?
thanks in advance.
To Ron,
my p38 is the last in the line and its exhaust is 2 into 1. It does not split into two again after the muffler, it has just a single outlet. The best part of this exhaust system is the opposite of whats good about Dave's, that its super quiet.
Cheers Mick

Hmmm, not sure on the extrctors, i'll take a pic and post soon?
The oxygen sensor situated past the extractors.
Stay tuned for pics...
