Guys & gals,
Can you help my sister in law with these questions?
We are talking 50 year old "girls"
It seems because I drive a Landrover I know the answers.

BTW Jim ( my sister in laws hubby) drives a Prado so knows nought.:wasntme:

Do you know what it would be like for 2 girls like lark and i to drive to innisfail and cut across to Normanton then down to cloncurry to pick up the route to the NT? too much driving? dangerous? not worth it

OR better to just go longreach and take time?

not sure where to look up comments on actual driving side of things...

this is from 21st sept for 2 weeks to get to darwin (where Pip is)

We're in her 2001 BMW 4WD as she was going to get a subaru and jim said better to keep the BMW for the Territroy as at least higher off the road for waterways etc...otherwise get a high 4WD like toyota but factor in replacement cost of an already good car (BMW)!!! so she kept the car for now.

Any advice for her? I don't think it could be considered dangerous

Bitumen all the way...good road...even in a BMW:o they should have no problems and there is no water crossings.........all bridges....as long as they stick to the highway...there are more interesting ways to go:D though I would not recommended them to novice 4WDer's:D

No worries, its a great road. If time allows we would recommend a day at the Undarra Lava Tubes. The 1 day tour costs a bit, but is well worth it. You can camp there as well if you want.
There's lots of interesting things to see along the way.
If you happen to be around Banka Banka (NT) in the late afternoon, it's quite a nice place to camp. We found ourselves near there at around camp time a few weeks ago, and found it quite pleasant. There were a few others there so you get to have a yarn with other travellers. Also if you're interested in learning a bit about the cattle stations in the area, they put on an informative film.
Lucky you - going to the Territory!
Safe & happy travelling.

As long as you are comfortable driving on narrow bitumen you wont have a problem.
Look out for stock on the roads particularly between Normanton and Cloncurry. Its all unfenced cattle country. There are a few of these roadhogs moving around as well. This photo was taken just North of Quamby. They definately will not give way to you so get off the road well in advance.
