Filters

Hey everyone.

Not many of us are still stuck in SLR land, but I am:D. Since most ordinary 35mm films are daylight/outdoor balanced, I use an 80A filter for colour correction under ordinary incandescent light which works well - not so well under fluorescent...

So what sort of filter do I need to buy to get adequate colour correction under fluorescent light? I'd have thought that "daylight" fluoros of 5000k + would've not required correction, but sometimes things appear with green fringes:(.

Also where is the best online outlet? Has anyone used filtershop.com.au or photovideo.com.au?

Mainline in Sydney are excellent for mail order of B+W filters.

If you look through the pages of any of the filter manufacturers you will see which one suites the purpose best. Incandescent light can be a big pain and of course now days its not just fluorescent tubes but those "long life" bulbs too.

I've purchased from this group before, they seem good but beware they are 'grey importers' meaning same product but from a different market. They'll have international power plugs which can be remedied with a power plug adapter. That said, they also have filters from Hoya.

Cheers Derek! Not many online stores stock B+W. Yeah, its those long life bulbs that are the prob since everyone seems to have them, and some are "warm white" ranging to "clinically sterile white". I have found though that Hoya make a range of fluorescent colour correction, duh, termed 'FL', but you need separate filters for the warm white and daylight white.

Sitting next to me is the 1" thick B&H Photographics mail order catalogue... thankfully the Australia peso has dropped to about 80c US so its not tempting me any more:angel:

Nup, too expensive for me and I'm really not turned on by photography enough to bother. I'm still waiting on my new 'superzoom' to arrive which is stuck in Cairns - that, maybe an IR filter, perhaps a wide converter and that's about the extent of my photographic interest:D
