Mine is often like this. I have to change between high and low range while rolling slowly otherwise its too difficult. When the car was new it wouldn't change at all while stationary.

transmission wind up is part of the cause.
lack of use of the shifter is another...
weather I need to or not I shift my rovers from hi to low and take them for a little drive on some gravel or sand at least once a week.

never had one stick, but have had them jump out, particularly when new,and probably not in correctly.
as said,i always roll slightly to get it in & out and have no problems
i do notice the cdl sometimes takes a while to drop out & do its ding dong thing.
i am always very careful not to use the cdl particularly on the beach unless it is needed

mmm interesting, no cdl is this the norm as I'm pretty partial to it myself?? so what would it take for you to engage it ?? I'm interested?

this can be an early sign of burring on the selectors of the tcase...
it can eventually lead to failure to select high or low but fixing it is fairly easy and doesnt require removal of the tcase.
untill its baulking at going in, jumping out when backing off and not wanting to shift at all when stationary dont panic about it.
