Haltech Interceptor and Exhaust

Hi,

I have an interceptor purchased for dual mapping gas/petrol - need to install after i get injected gas - waiting on tank.

Under the back of the car today noted a few holes in the pipe near exhaust - need to check if exhaust are good/bad as well as the cats - presuming a 96 4.6 HSE has cats? (was in a rush so didn't look - too cold now)

OK given that i might have to replace pipes/exhaust? etc i have been reading a few posts about peoples various systems. I love the note on some (lavislane :)) while others are clearly to loud for me. I am after that subtle V8 note throughout the low to mid range with a nice growl with higher revs. Increased power so more free flowing although with the interceptor and a free flowing exhaust and larger pipe i think that will be more than i need.

Any suggestions for a P38 exhaust system and keeping it all to a budget? Running out of excuses for spending money above what i have planned.

I am thinking keep headers and cats (if they are there) replace with 2 1/2 inch system from the cats to the rear. Remove the two (?) mufflers centre and rear and replace with a free flowing muffler in the centre.

Any advice on brands and prices for this type of system.

As far as I'm aware, the '95 doesn't have cats. I don't think the '96 does either. However both look like they do.

Where can i found if the 96 does. Any luck on wiring your interceptor in?

I note you put a 3 inch system through one of your cars. Was it the classic?

If the part no. for the '96 exhaust is the same as the '95 exhaust then I think we can assume no cats.

I will be sure to take a few photos if i get it done but will probably wait until i get the gas sorted etc so a few months. Let me know if you make progress before me.

Re cats, I'm not sure what the cat-like chambers are for in the early P38A exhausts. Why not make the pipes without them. There are no O2 sensors nor any welded on threaded sockets for O2 sensors on the down pipes. I added one for the LPG installation.

I wouldn't take my blanket statement of no cats as gospel until we can prove it. I don't have my parts catalogue with me to check part nos of the '95 and '96 down pipes.

Re the Interceptor install, I'm hoping to find someone who has had it done to their P38A.

I used Hi Tech Muffler in the city. They gave my P38 a lot of attention. It wasn't the cheapest job but i'm pretty happy with the result, about 10% more power and at least 10% better fuel economy. Love the new sound too!

Give Theo a shout there for advice on what to use if you're still looking to upgrade.

PM me the price if you are ok with that. I am probably thinking just normal steel, don't do that much beach stuff and in a dry area, 2/ 1/2 inch from after the cats where the pipes join, new sports exhaust (to allow more free flow) and and another smaller exhaust at the rear to keep it quiet but still allow me to hear the V8.
