A mate of mine called me last night says he has found a s3 LWB SW (think it is a s3 will find out tonight when mate has better look at it) for me for the pricely sum of a carton. I was not looking for one as my back lawn is starting to look like a car grave yard, the mrs does not know yet:nazilock:, but it is a landy after all so can always find room:angel:.

I am expecting the steel to be rusted out as it is a beach machine from esperance. Apart from stripping the good bits for my tray back was thinking about putting the body on a trailer frame and turning it into a camper. Was a pic of one in 4x4 action a few issues ago that looked good and at the time thought was a good idea.

Has anyone here done anything similar? Would love to see some pics and open to idears with what to do the the beast.

cheers

Its been done, but with the lwb hardtop. I have not heard of it being done with a wagon.

Not quite sure what it actually is till tonight as mate only saw it from a distance at night. Whats the difference between the hard top and SW I thought they are the same thing?

The basic idea would be to put the rear tub on a trailer chassis made for the purpose, with the hardtop on it. This leaves open to ideas what to do about the front, where the seating is. I have seen several alternatives for this - for example, there was one at Cooma which had a box built to fill in under the roof and merging back to the hardtop, and I have seen them with the roof shortened to the front of the tub, and a flat wall at the front. The rear body of a lwb Landrover is a little small for a camper, but particularly for a single person who is prepared to rough it a bit, it is quite useable, and you can always incorporate fold-out or up bits, although these get away from the basic simplicity of the concept.

was thinking fold down seat come bed not worried about too much stuff in the inside so as to try and keep the weight down. Any idea of what the weight of the rear end body shell less chassy would be in the ball park of while thinking down this line of thought?

The front bit is the main part that I need some idears on. What have they blocked the hole with, ply or made up some sort of frame and lined with alloy? Was thinking a large alloy ute toolbox like they have at super cheap n nasty mounted on the draw bar but that will still be a meter or so from roof line so maybe taper of front of roof 45deg or so to help with the aerodynamics.
