Ok
Now the head gasket is done (with ARP studs this time). I thought I would post up the HWY running figures to see how they compare to others.

RRC on 35'' tyres on 4.11's through R380/LT230 top mount intercooler.

110 kmp/h @12psi boost, 420 - 490 deg EGT ( at basically level cruising )
possibly around the 2300rpm mark with plenty under foot to overtake

Did a rolling test with a chipped TD5 at same boost but he was running at 318 deg egt. ( thats computers for you)

hi Justin,

Was the Td5's EGT gauge downstream of the turbo? This would account for the 100odd degrees difference...I have seen chipped ones easily see 600degrees (Upstream)on hard throttle in a high gear:o

Sounds/ looks like the goods, any current pics floating about:angel:

No upstream I fitted it for him. This TD5 has the Bruce Davis chipped ECU which is a bit strange to say the least. It will pull 600 if you are up it for the rent.

Have done a bit of work on the RRC so will post a pick tomorrow.

 Pics are good! Bring on the pics I say!

The one I measured was a BD chip aswell, it would go to 700 if left unchecked:eek:

Pyro's are a good thing for the towing person I reckon!

what are pyros, how can you read EGT'S easily?

a pyrometer is literally a fire meter it reads the temperature of things that are hot, not just hot like boiling water but hot like engine combustion temperatures.

you put the sensor side of a pyrometer into the exhaust manifold and the gauge side where you can read it and then it tells you how hard your working the engine. It works on the principal that an ICE is nothing more than a heat pump, the harder your working it the higher its heat output.

Dave,so looking at a td5,for eg.(i know this is an isuzu landy section),if it has a computer calibrated temp. guage, the only way to tell if it is working too hard is to check the egt?

i suppose they are expensive & dam hard to fit

A few hundred bucks and easy to fit

Maybe so a search on EGT...Pyro...Exhaust gas temperature gauge and read the wealth of info the interweb can deal you:D

To give you another set of figures.

My RRC on 29's (225/75R16).
4BD1T, MSA-5G gearbox (Isuzu) and LT230R (1.003:1) transfer.
2000rpm at 100km/h.
Level road that produces 420-450C EGT's with 8-9psi boost.

Upon application of full pedal stroke, I get 20psi and 750C EGT's.

The more boost you run, the colder your EGT's will be. Do you know what boost and rpm that td5 was running at that speed?

Here's mine,

RRC LT95 (1.123:1 high range still) 33's and 3.54 diffs.

Approx 2500rpm@100kmh:o
280 to 350deg cruising at these revs on flat highway, 7 to 10 psi at the manifold.
550 flat maggot (Sorry Ash) up a long steep hill.15psi max.

Never had it without IC connected so can't help with a comparison.

with the 4HP22 auto trans it was;

300 odd deg at 100kmh, 4th lockup and 1.22:1 LT230 and 32" tyres about 2100rpm.
Would pull 650deg up hills flat out.:o Made my bulkhead paint blister once as the dump pipe exits backwards...

I had the fuel up a fair bit back then, have since mellowed in old age.

Now thinking of going BACK to auto actually:confused:

Here you go JC finally got photobucket to play. Mighty impressed with the Maxxis trepadors, super quiet on road and not too bad off road so far.I think its finally at the leave it alone point as it really drives well for a heavy truck.

nope, you can do it cheaply but its not very accurate and its a pain to use.

and you can tell how hard the engine is working without any gauges..

listen to it.
