Guys,
I have bought a low km 3.9 engine to replace the old 3.5 motor in the Rangie. The new motor has the newer timing case etc with serpentine belt. Whilst looking at the motor yesterday it has hoses coming from either side of the oil filter housing and they appear to go to an oil cooler possibly mounted as part of the radiator. As I have an almost new radiator I do not want to change it and after a look this afternoon there appears to be no room to mount an aftermarket oil cooler behind the grill.
As I have never had an overheating problem is it possible to do away with the oil cooler and just loop the lines together. That would appear to be the easiest solution as I have no idea how I would fit in an oil cooler behind the grill.

thanks,
Ian

Could you use one of the transmission coolers from the Discos and later Rangies. They are about 3" tall and run completely across the radiator aperture just in front and slightly below the fans. I have both a transmission cooler and an additional engine oil cooler below that on my RRc. Most of the time the engine oil temp hardly reads on the VDO gauge, but when towing and with sand work I am glad it's there.
