Got one of those 45D replacement electronic jobs sent over from the Old Dart and was very impressed. I have never felt the 2.25P run so smoothly before. Very responsive ... flat idle etc. Don;t know what sort of ecomony it returned because a) the speedo has not worked in a while ... the only indication is a anthropogenic vent in the roof that opens at about 55km/h and b) the module melted after two days.
I suspect my ignorance wrt the high powered coil and not replacing the said coil with one suited to the electronic ignition resulted in the meltdown. Could have fried an egg on the distributor body. The first time the Avenger has been under tow since I've had it. My beloved brother turned up in his Nissan Fatrol and we skull dragged it home. There were a few special moments. A small debacle involving a snapped tow rope on the Jack Flynn Memorial overpass in front of a squad car ... Fortunately the officers in the car were either eating donuts or had the blinkers on ... the eyes variety. How they did not see us was puzzling. The other involved a near take out of an ambitious cyclist attempting a passanger side overtake. Ordinarily a fair move on his part, but the Landy in tow was actually moving faster than it would under its own steam.
This might be the Avengers subtle way of telling me to take the fancy new modern technology, shove it up my **** and walk home.
Long story short ...
I use a GT40R coil with a resistor obviously. Should I toss the Botch coil and put a bog standard 9V coil on? Apologies for the ignorance ... my experience of auto electrics is limited to the knowledge that it is a dark science.
