Buy both of them
Haynes is OK but it skims over the details and leaves you feeling a bit

I should know ...

I use both ...

one of them will have that missing detail you're looking for, that the other doesn't....

The only hard copy manual really worth having is " The Range Rover Workshop Manual " by Land rover. 2 large volumes and worth every cent of the kings ransom they cost. I have 2 sets...1 in the workshop and the other which I try to keep clean. They cover 1986 on upto the onset of the P38A.

the rave cd is particularly good if you have the late RRC, as you do, but will tend to just say "use special tool #####" whereas haynes might help by suggesting how to get round the requirement. ie "remove xxxxx using a suitable lever". as always, manuals are only ever written from the perspective of disassembling a nice new shiny one so thats where fora such as this have become invaluable. here you'll learn how long the aforementioned lever (read:scaffold pole) needs to be !
both the haynes and the 86-89 genuine manual for my earlier RRC, suffer greatly from 'supplement syndrome' where the bulk of the info is as per the base vehicle but then contain crucial detail changes piecemeal through successive supplements. this also leads to a certain unwieldyness due to size.
sometimes i use the rave cd manual to get the overview of a job then adapt the process to my older car's components.
as i infinitely prefer the clarity of print and the mobility of a managable book the old, tattered, 1977 model repair operation manual is the bees knees for all the stuff that remained resolutely unchanged. admirably concise (unlike myself), lavishly illustrated and suffering none of the cramped layouts of reprints.
even if you get the rave cd, consider buying the manual in hard copy as well further on. i scored my copy of the 2"+ thick 86-89 book for $50 on ebay recently, usually its up around the $130 mark so now i've got the full panoply-haynes, rave, 86-89 and 1977 workshop manuals, parts book, torque tips vols I & II, Four Wheel Drives parts catalogue and not forgetting the lr estonia club's online pdf of the RRC north american spec factory manual. needless to say the latter was not much chop when i was looking for a diagram of the clutch !

I find haynes is good for the quick reference simple stuff but if you want depth go the rave/Workshop manual.
The manual will in places assume a certain minimum level of experience whereas the haynes is more A > B > C

IMO

I thought the rave CD was just a digital copy of the workshop manuals?

anyhow you can get the manuals from the dealers but the cost hundreds of $$$ rave CD is what ? $20 or there abouts.

If you want pages in the garage, just print them out ;)

RAVE CD can be purchased through Inc who runs this site, and proceeds go to running the site ....it's less than $20 and is very comprehensive.
Dave's Interesting Things (http://www.davesitshop.com/davesitshop/index.php?_a=viewCat&catId=1)
It's the full LR mechanical, electrical workshop manuals and owners manuals plus some other stuff.
I guess you could print the whole thing but it would be easy ( as said ) to just print the pages you need for each job.
Or you could put a digital projector in your garage and project it on the wall.;)

The Haynes is handy to keep in the car. ( just in case a roadside repair is needed ).
The Haynes gives a bit of general "how does it work" info more like a "Landrovers for Dummies" ( so suits me very well )
The RAVE is designed more for your trained workshop mechanic.

Well , I've placed an order with Dave ( inc ) for RRMAN 86-94 Rave CD but I think I may be doubling up ,Please let me know if this is the case or not but will the RAVE CD I also contain the workshop Manual for Range Rover Classics vs RRMAN 86-94 RAVE , but I'm happy to support the site by buying the RRMAN 86-94 as well.

The RAVE CD doesn't cover the RR classic except for the Soft dash model 1994-95

Khos, I have a Haynes manual you can have if you like.
