Google headquarters have a large screen in the lobby that displays what phrases are being searched on (filtered of course).

I wonder if it just filled up with beer searches.

The Hero of Waterloo (http://www.heroofwaterloo.com.au/history.html)

The Lord Nelson (http://www.lordnelsonbrewery.com/lnbh_joomla/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=19&Itemid=31)

Are all quite old, but not quite as old as Cascade. The Bald Faced Stag, in Leichhardt, became Tooheys.

And Malt Shovel Brewery (http://www.maltshovel.com.au/) would like us to think that James Squire was the original, and since he died in 1822 he might have got there before Cascade.

What was the question again?

Cheers
Simon

James Squire was australias first official brewer, he brewed originally for the officers(as usual they look after themselves first....they still do) of her majesties troops in Sydney.

Our first recorded brewer was a John Boston, who brewed uo some stuff in the 1790's, he used malted maize and and leaves and stalks from the Cape Gooseberry for bitters.
The Hit & Miss brewery in Hamilton Tasmania was one of the first recognised, brewing from 1850-1881
William and Ralph Foster arrived in australia from New York and launched Fosters Lager in 1889.
There were by 1889, 307 breweries in australia and by 1980 only 20. there are now 90 plus boutique breweries operating.
I just love this subject.
