Hi All
My disco 1 is a imported car and I would like to get a spare key fob, can this fob be sourced through an aussie dealer or do I need to get it from england. The original guy that owned the car has a spare key and fob but I am at wits end trying to appease the guy so he will part with it, wants me to do freebies for him in my line of business and is holding me to ransom (for want of a better desciption). Can I just get a spare key cut and successfully operated the car without to many drama's. Its a tdi300. I think all the problems stem from the orignal owner regrets selling the disco and is just trying to make my life hard because of it.

BBlaze,
Any dealer or LR stockist will have a remote plip available.
I had a Japenese import 200Tdi with a single button plip, ordered a plip from the dealer & programmed all ok.
I have seen a few imports from the UK, NZ & Germany come into work & programm up all ok.
I will say yours would be a 2 button plip @ 315MHz.
Cheers:D

Call him and tell him if he has another buyer for the fob to go ahead and that you have sourced another 1, call his bluff and see if he sells it to you. Otherwise tell him to @#$% off and get 1 from the UK.

Is the owner of the spare key and fob O/S or in Tasmania too?
I'd be ensuring he sends it on, otherwise there is the possibility he could steal the car back. No kidding.
Send a letter of demand from a solicitor.

Search thru ebay uk - one like this
mg rover 2 button remote fob lucas 17tn key excell cond on eBay, also, Rover MGF, Car Parts, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 21-Sep-08 10:39:33 BST) (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/mg-rover-2-button-remote-fob-lucas-17tn-key-excell-cond_W0QQitemZ110288500300QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item 110288500300&_trkparms=72%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C24 0%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14)
and you're right about the frequency difference ( 315 vs 418 I think)

Lives in tassie about 5 km from me, not the sort of guy that would steal the car (more dollars than any one could spend in a lifetime), the part that p*sses me off is the fact that he is holding over me that he wants my services for the key and fob (feel like I am being held to ransom over it),but wont just come and and say it. I may just tell him in a few choice words to **** ***.
I think it would be worth spending the money as it would cause me a whole lot less stress.

Uk fob frequencies are different from Australian ones so if your car is a UK import you will need to get the UK freq (I am not sure but I think Aust is 400 something Hertz and UK is 315 Hz. (The correct part number should be on your blib case)
Cost in Australia is over the top - about $200 and you may not be able to get the 315 Hz version - I bought two new ones on ebay UK - landed in Aust was $70 for the two.

Both plips are available in Aus..315 or 433Mhz are the 2 frequencies.
Just ask the stockist to have both & see which one programs.
Not nice to see some pr*#k hold u over just for a damn key plip.
I hope all turns out well in the end. Cheers

Hi Blaze,
Pull the underside trim down from under your glovebox, there is a green coloured ECU. This is the 10AS alarm ECU. It will have 315MHz or 433MHz written on it. Let me know which it is, I have a spare remote here. It will need to be programmed in but at least then you'll have one and you can tell him to go away.
BTW, If we reprogram both the remotes, your one and mine here if it is correct, then the one HE has won't work as it will no longer be synchronized. Just tell him you want the ignition key only then.(:p to him!)
