Mount Ninderry - I normally shoot all my landscapes ultra wide on my Tokina 11-16mm, but occasionally I stick on my Nikon F1.8G 35mm prime lens for a more focused composition.

That plane doesn't look right. The engine is all wrong. I have a photo I took of Hinkler's plane at the Qld Museum in about 1968. I'm sure the engine is different. I'll hunt the slide out.

EDIT: Aha! It's not the plane he flew from the UK, it's one he flew from Sydney to Bundy.

The first picture is of his Avro Baby, with a watercooled Green engine. The other is his Avro Avian, with an aircooled ADC Cirrus engine. The Cirrus engine used parts from a WW1 Renault V8 engine to build a four cylinder engine, and was effectively an ancestor of the DH Gipsy (DH Moth) and Gipsy Major (DH Tiger Moth, DHC Chipmunk, DHA Drover and many others) engines, and through them, of the Gipsy Six (DH Dragon Rapide, DH86, Dove, etc) and Gipsy Twelve (DH Albatross).

Bagara - where there's bagar-all to see and bagar-all to do ;)

except maybe a short trip up the road to the hummock for some strawberries.

Actually - a lot has changed in 20 years. There's a woolworths there now. I remember wongarra scenic drive used to be a racetrack after the causeway.... there are houses everywhere there now - I just googled it... [bigsmile]

And rifle range road - many a drag race for decades along there..... including the odd off-duty 'public safety official' in years gone by...

wow I can't even see the old restaraunt Galleon cave ?? I think it was... friends of mine owned it after it closed in the 90's - did they knock it down?

I didn't think they burned sugar cane any more seeing it is mechanised harvesting.

The same gear is used to cut the cane whether it is burnt or green. Obviously no "trash" if they burn it first and if cut green then a trash blanket is left on the ground. One of the issues of cutting green is that the harvester blades don't last as long.

I read about 10 percent of Bundy growers still burn. Most till it in instead.

Some farmers rake the cane trash into rows after harvesting and burn it. Some leave it on the ground supposedly to protect the soil.

my first serious shot at a real portrait of my baby girl and her three girls, with the D7500, 35mm f/2.8 Tokina and my SB700 flash unit in my rather poorly lit lounge room.

no real PP other than cropping and the signature.

sadly my skills aren't as impressive as the cameras ability but i was quite chuffed at the results considering.

These people live in small houses,no running water,no power,no gas,no fridge,just a pushbike.Drop toilet out the back.Cook on a fire.
A few now have a car battery hooked up to a small solar panel,to power a few 12v lightbulbs.
They always seem happy.

So, what do you do when it's a lovely warm sunny Spring morning at the back of the Newport rail yards/Steamrail while waiting for a truck to turn up....

Go exploring and take some pics of course! Sadly wasn't allowed around the train end but had unfettered access around the back where its falling apart and overgrown, but some great black and white pics waiting for me.

Lots of light so the iphone works ok in these situations.

Looks like a bloody big green ants nest but unsure if you have them around that area. They usually make them out of the leaves for waterproofing.

Absolutely within the rules - you can fly over your own backyard and family and you can fly over friends and others backyards with their permission - no dramas at all with that shot. Can't fly over people in public or populated areas, or other backyards where permission hasn't been granted. Only thing that could make this shot illegal is if the house where the pic as shot was within 5.5KM of a controlled Airport (assuming that the pool and backyard was the OP's place) [biggrin]

DiscoMick
30th December 2019, 09:02 PM
I admit I don't understand these rules, but reading Tombie's post, does that mean you can't fly closer than 30 metres to any building, including your own house? It doesn't state your own house is excluded from the rule.

Also, does that mean if you drive somewhere to fly your drone, you have to move at least 30 metres away from your own vehicle, and any others?

Also, if most cities are controlled airspace, does this mean no drone can be flown above 120 metres in a city?

Interesting.

Non-compliant. Penalty can be pretty high.
Drone operators flouting CASA regs is the reason licensing and compliance requirements are getting tighter. CASA has a *lot* of punch, and if it keeps up drones will end up like firearms - fully licensed only.

Tombie
31st December 2019, 06:49 PM
There are systems to allow operation above people etc and if licensed approval will often be given.

In line with ASTM F-3322 there are systems such as below:
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191231/ce2a5adcee22b41e95efe9184ba4c49f.jpg

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191231/94ac9acefa162efdcf1d16ae60f63543.jpg

I use these when flying at work as they meet CASA regs for flying around structure and people. They’re also good where the weather is marginal and can prevent drone loss.

Drones dropping like a stone is not a rare occurrence.

This one is a little out of the ordinary. I am in the process of digitising some old negatives, and I decided that this one, with really interesting shadows from the low sun angle contrasting with the tree trunks. It is a billabong somewhere near Kyalite on the Murray, and was taken by my father in about 1933 with a box Brownie.
